danchiz's pinspired geek chic style

Time for another guest Pinspired post! You might remember [one of my favorite people] DanChiz from the MTV TJ competition. Now he's an amazing style blogger and still kicking social media ass. He also enjoys Pinterest fashion just as much as I do, and has mastered the art of copying an outfit with different items.

-----

I think of my style as geek chic. I like to take classic men's looks and make them more fitted. I like a tight look rather than a loose feeling.

I took inspiration from a post on Pinterest (the left look) and recreated it my way. The post from Pinterest is all full price clothing that retails significantly higher than my recreation. I searched the likes of Gilt, Loehman's and Bluefly to recreate the look. I think I did pretty well!

As you notice, my look is significantly more fitted than the Pinterest post. I kept the same color scheme and even managed to find a tartan tie that resembled the one from the Pinterest look. The only thing I did not manage to directly recreate was the desert boots. Desert boots can be a little pricey and boat shoes don't kill the bank account so I decided to wear those in the look.

Think I faired well? Let me know!

You can find out more about my style on my blog, danchiz.com! And follow my Pinterest for my style inspiration!

-----

How great is he?! Everyone really should have a pocket DanChiz to carry with them everywhere, but since society frowns upon shrinking and cloning people, make sure you follow him. It's the next best thing.

I'd love to feature someone every week! So speak up if you'd like to be featured! [You don't have to be a  fancy style blogger!]

what ellen says about social media in the 90s

Time for another excerpt from Ellen's "Seriously... I'm Kidding!" I hope you're enjoying these as much as I am. A couple people have asked what book I'm reading cuz it looks really good. Um... it's "SERIOUSLY... I'M KIDDING." Wait. Maybe I should underline it so it's officially a book title. I'm reading Seriously... I'm Kidding, by Ellen Degeneres. Is that more clear? :)

Anyway! It's obvious this was an immediate "MUST SHARE" selection, considering she talks about two of my favorite things: The 90s and social media.

Maybe the reason I like her so much is because the "crazy" things I do/have done seem completely normal and acceptable when she talks about it. Or just because she's so damn GOOD at pointing things out.

And yeah, I do kinda want some tequila right now. Just because Ellen told me I do.

awesome photography: kenji croman's waves

The first week of fall is officially here, but I refuse to accept it. I plan on hitting the beach and working on my tan this weekend.

BUT... when the time does come that I have to put on warmer clothes and face my pale ass in the mirror, I'm going to need one of these amazing photos blown up on my wall to remind me off the better days.

They're by Kenji Croman, and even though they're all technically of the same thing, I'm so fascinated by them! They're gorgeous! Can you imagine having one blown up as wallpaper or something?! Goodness. It'd be a beautiful room.

You can see more of them here!

Sugar Daddy, feel free to order me some large prints of these.

PS: If you wanna support him and get some prints for yourself, hurry and support him on Kickstarter!! Only a couple days left, and you can see the prints for yourself in a video!

eb fashion: white dress after labor day

Lauren Conrad said it's 2012 and you can totally wear white after Labor Day, and what LC says- goes.

I've seen a lot of lacy dresses all over Pinterest, a couple that were white, and I've totally wanted one, just never thought I'd find one for cheap. Then I did. It was a whopping $14 at Ross, and couldn't be snatched up by my fingers fast enough.

I have a lot of plans for this dress, and maybe I'll combine them all into one eventually, but this is the first quick one I threw together:

The belt came on a pair of shorts, and the sandals are from Express, on sale, with a $35 off $75 coupon... I think I ended up paying about $18 for them. Gold leaf earrings from a random NYC street shop for less than $3- Bam. $35 outfit.

And just to "EB" the outfit a little bit [AKA make it less classy], I was later seen riding a bull with a hott German twin later that night... while having blurry vision.

I've been really lucky at Ross lately, but I definitely think it has everything to do with the location of the store and the day you go on. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out which day is the best yet. I do know that if you're in the Hampton Roads area, get your butt in the Princess Anne location in VB.

watch: crazy little girl talks about the tooth fairy

The latest awesome kid to stop by the Ellen Show: Maggie Elizabeth Jones. She's 8 years old, writing questionnaires for the Tooth Fairy [that get answered], doing the boogie dance, and has a serious 'tude.

[FYI, the intense tude comes in towards the end, after the Tooth Fairy talk...]

I just seriously love kids that have the attitude of an adult. I'm sure they're the biggest handful of all, but how hilarious is this girl?! I can't even deal.

Note to self: Start interviewing kids. They're funnier than you think...... maybe.

my quick celebration of national gymnastics day

Saturday was National Gymnastics Day, and I really wanted to do a video of myself and tons of other people doing gymnastics all over the town, nation, world, whatever... but I didn't get sent anyone's pictures/videos! Sad face.

It's nothing new to see me doing cartwheels and handstands in public, but the first time I did one on camera on Saturday, this happened:

Shoe. In the fountain. In Georgetown in DC. I was then barefoot for the walk to the car.. but that's also not unusual.

I'm a klutz. Welcome to my life.

wardrobe malfunction!: sofia vergara bares her butt

The sexiest woman on TV showed off why she's got that title during the Emmy's last night.

No, not just on the red carpet in that awesome dress.

She also had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction when her dress split 20 minutes before Modern Family accepted their award... and she had no problem sharing it with the world.

And that moment made boys everywhere need to change their pants or hide under their desk a little more.

Like I've always said [especially when it happened to me], if something embarrassing happens to you, show it off to the world and laugh about it in unison.... or drool, if you got an ass like hers.

watch: glee's cool version of britney's "crazy"

I don't watch Glee often, but when I do, it's when they're doing Britney episodes.

Okay, that meme is so overdone... but it's true! As much as I love seeing/hearing the show's covers, I think the rest of it mostly sucks.

Last night was Britney 2.0 episode, and all of it was pretty good [not as good as the first one], but this was my favorite song/cover/part:

By now you should know I just love when people take songs and switch them around to be their own, and that's what they did. I love it. Like... it's on repeat right now.

And that's the end of me being park Gleek.

from "seriously... i'm kidding": what ellen says about stereotypes and musicals

The latest excerpt from Ellen's "Seriously... I'm Kidding" book is one of my top 3 from the book. It totally made me LOL just thinking about what she says actually happening.

Everything captured is worth reading, but the best is highlighted.

I just love that she's able to be so sarcastic but so sincere about real issues. She's making the world laugh while still talking about the serious stuff every day. [Maybe stereotypes aren't super serious, but she covers a lot of stuff throughout the book.] I envy her for that.

watch: my office does a "call me maybe" video

Better late than never, right?

Tomorrow night, the office is hosting an "open house." Basically, we invite a bunch of people up to the building to eat, drink, get silly, see how everything works, and oh yeah- Maybe gain a little somethin-somethin out of it.

My coworkers over in the interactive department wanted to do a fun video for everyone who comes, and what better way than a funny lipdub to this year's biggest song?!

We jumped on the bandwagon [and other things] and created this hott mess of awesome silliness:

The best parts are definitely the people who know nothing about the song and are completely awkward throughout the video. [If they're reading this, welp... they know who they are, and they should know that they really are the best parts... don't ya agree?!]

It's also fun to see the very different personalities that run around in a radio office. #1 rule to working in one: Know how to have fun, all the time. CHECK!

10 forgotten heartthrobs and what they look like now

Buzzfeed recently posted a list of 100 forgotten heartthrobs from the 80s and 90s. As fun as it was to reminisce, all I wanted to know is what some of my faves look like now.

So, I'm doing some work for us all... and finding out how many Twitter followers they have [ya know, to see how really forgotten they are].

Brandon Call- Lookin icky, and can't find a Twitter.

Chris O'Donnell- I hardly think he's forgotten, but he's one of the hottest dads ever now. And maybe people forgot what he looked like back in the day. 81k followers

David Lascher- Lookin good now, but if this is his Twitter, he needs help with his 190 followers.

BRINK! Err, Erik Von Detten- Looking the exact same [a couple years ago, with the most recent pic I could find]. Unfortunately, couldn't find a Twitter.

Jason James Richter- WOAH scary transformation! Certainly a downgrade from the Free Willy cutie. He's also so off the map, he doesn't have a Twitter.

Nate Richert- He has not aged well... but he's turned to music [not Twitter, dumb], so I guess his image change is acceptable.

Zachery Ty Bryan- Looks the exact same, but not in a good way. 754 followers. Fail.

Will Friedle- Not forgotten in my book, but totally a guy I'd like to marry nowadays. It's gonna be a bit hard to make happen since he's also boycotting the Twitterverse.

Andrew Keegan- Kinda a creepy hottie now, 311 followers. Oof.

Not on Buzzfeed's list, but he was my fave in the Disney Channel Originals. Ryan Merriman- yumtastic now. I think his Twitpics gave him the solid 24k followers.

I wonder if so many of them are off Twitter because they're embarrassed of their fall from planet Earth? Goodness. It's crazy how some people really do fall off and people don't even notice... until now.

Let me know if you look up some of the others and find some goodness!

pics and video diary: what america needs to learn from mexico

Before last week, my passport was five years old and completely empty. Basically sadness in a book. But THEN! I decided to take a trip to Cancun.

I won't bore you too many words. I'll just share these pictures from an absolutely amazing trip, and also a couple things that I think America needs to adapt from this awesome party city ASAP.

Yes, the bottom left was the view from our room. Still unbelievable.

Dolphin Discovery day! We got to swim with two dolphins for an hour! I wish I had the money to get all of our pictures [like them putting their noses on my feet and making me fly through the air like Superman]. The whole area was awesome though- Pools, sting rays, sharks, snorkeling, and oh yeah- FREE DRINKS SERVED IN THE POOL!

I asked Facebook where I should go, and everyone said Coco Bongo! This place was amazing! 5 minute Cirque du Soleil shows with dancing between. Perfect for my ADD mind.

We went to the "XPLOR" park, which had sky-high zip lines, cave rafting/swimming, and ATV's to drive through it all. It was a freaking blast, and I met a new animal friend- the yet to be named Coati! Here's a video from ON the zip line:

One of my favorite moments: Being able to help release 209 brand new baby sea turtles into the ocean. We held them, put them by the ocean, and guided them into their new home. It was definitely an incredible, unforgettable thing.

Now, I think the rest of the world needs to learn from America and not wear Speedos to the bars [or anywhere for that matter], but there are some things America needs to take from Cancun:

5. Legally rob people's wallets- at the flea market. Every flea market I've gone to always meant "get things for super cheap." I know how to do it, I know how to talk people down... but somehow [I blame it on the dollars-peso conversion rate being impossible to figure out in your head quickly] my bank account was raped. I paid $50 for two martini glasses. Unacceptable. You're welcome, Mexican economy.

4. We really should learn more languages
. I won't lie... I've always said you should know the language of the country your traveling to instead of expecting them to cater to you, but I was beyond impressed with how well 95% of the Mexicans knew English.. and I don't know how I would have survived if they didn't.

3. Liquor needs to be sold in Walmart. We bought a bottle of Captain for under $10 there! And Skyy was about $11! Um- BARGAIN LIQUOR SHOPPING?! Count me in!

2. We need to learn to dance. They had a dance battle on a boat one afternoon, with one person representing a different country. Go figure- America was the drunk a-hole with no rhythm.

1. Drinks should be served, for free, before entering the club. We went to Coco Bongo [which is the coolest nightclub I've ever been to, BY FAR! They have quick shows based on everything pop culture with dance breaks inbetween... perfect for the ADD mind!], and before we even got inside the club, I was handed two shots of tequila and a vodka/cranberry- FREE OF CHARGE.

And that's a little about my vacation! I'm also pretty sure that something is pretty obvious/evident at this point. You're right. ;) [If ya don't get it, ya don't get it...]

happy birthday!

....to me!

Well, not me- elizabethany, but me, the blog! Today marks the 4th birthday of this here blog, and I'll be straight up with you- I am beyond proud. This is the biggest commitment I've had in my life next to gymnastics, and as each year passes, I totally high five myself. This is in fact my baby.

Anyway, I'm not going to celebrate with an extensive post, just wanted to say thank you for giving me a reason to keep this up week after week, year after year. I still love it and don't plan on letting it go any time soon.

a real vacation

You may have seen my tweets or status updates lately, but for the first time ever in my life, I'm about to get a stamp in my freaking passport! YAY!

I'm headed to Cancun until Thursday morning! I'm turning off my phone service, not bringing my laptop, and relaxing and enjoying the sweet life that before Saturday always seemed like a fake dream world doing everything I can to not have a panic attack about missing everything going on in the real world.

I will miss you all dearly, but don't you worry- I'm sure I'll have an epic post and tons of pictures to share with you when I get back! [And if I'm lucky- I'll be able to sneak in a couple photo uploads late at night in the hotel....]

Anyway, just thought I should let you know so you don't think I'm a slacker.
And if you plan on robbing my house- sorry boutchya sucker. I don't live alone. I also spotted a cockroach the other day... I KNOW you don't wanna mess with no roaches.

beyond the real world cameras: blowing kisses goodbye with brandon

Brandon put it perfectly last night when we talked about the hate between the roommates of St Thomas- When you cast a bunch of people from the East Coast, they're just going to compare dicks all day.

He's been one of the most straight-up, honest people of this season and it was sad to see him have to leave a couple days early, but I was glad to get some alone time with him on the phone to talk about it all.

Who he was with when he made the oopsies, what else happened with the girl he got hammered with, and whether or not he still thinks Swift has no respect for the ladies... he answered it all. I also had to call him out for lying to me before and being cute while hooking up with said drunk girl. [FYI: Don't tell him he's cute around other people. It'll ruin his badass reputation!]

And to celebrate the VMA's, I also asked him his favorite MTV moment of all time.

Yeah, we got slightly inappropriate at the end of that but whatever.

The finale is next week, and as I said, I won't be able to watch it live! BUT! I'll have all sorts of end-of-season polls that I'll want you to answer so we can give out some awards to these roomies. Feel free to tweet me your thoughts as you're watching!

an awesome passage from ellen's book "seriously, i'm kidding"

I don't read many books. In fact, as of today, I've only read three from cover to cover- A Walk To Remember, Chelsea Handler's "My Horizontal Life," and now Ellen's "Seriously... I'm Kidding."

Chelsea's and Ellen's books are both hysterical, and when I read them, I highlighted my favorite lines... now I want to start sharing some of Ellen's. Sometimes they're just straight up funny, and sometimes they're inspirational or about life, but still humorous.

I think this one is perfect to kick off this new thing I will be doing:

It's awesome advice, and maybe even more awesome because in the business I'm in, I'm constantly listening to other people to get ideas and inspiration... but I need to remember that I should never do exactly what someone else is doing if I wanna make it. Really, that goes for any profession. If you want that promotion, you're not going to get noticed by doing what someone else is doing, even if they are "better." Find a different way to do it and maybe that way will be even better than their's.

Okay, I'll shut up now because nothing I say will be as awesome as what Ellen just did.

I totally just did exactly what I said not to do, didn't I? Hmph.

on the racks: britney spears covers elle

Oh em gee... it's about to begin! The Britney Spears takeover 2.0, that is!

With X-Factor right around the corner, we're about to see BritBrit everywhere again, and it's going to be beautiful... especially if the October cover of Elle is a preview of it all.

The article finally gives us a little more information on her and Jason, too! Well, a little...
"It was kind of one of those things where she moved, like, turned around, so we were face-to-face and then ..., " says Trawick, who became engaged to Spears last December. But before Trawick, 39, can spill any more juicy details, his fiancée interrupts him, saying, "Okay, that's enough information, sweetie. It was sweet, just say that."

I wish she'd open up in interviews a little more, but I think we'll start seeing it happen soon. She did say she's not a believer in being like Kim Kardashian, though! And not that she needs to win more points in my book, she obviously did.
"I love my jeans and my sweats-I’m really just a tomboy at heart. So it’s really hard for me to be like Kim Kardashian and be makeup-and hair-ready every time I go out of my house. I’m not a believer in that, you know?"

Goodness, I just can't wait!! She looks amazing, she seems really happy.. BRING ON THE BRITNEY, BITCH!

10 most embarrassing nightclub photos

I love it when people share quality things with me that they know I'll love! [Especially if they're not doing it to promote themselves, and because it's actually something I've talked about loving before.]

One thing we all know I love: Spying crazy people in public, specifically in bars/clubs.

My friend Mojo put a link on my Facebook for a new page "Embarrassing Nightclub Photos," and it is GOLD. Here are some of my faves, that aren't gross enough to make you barf:

That is one seriously large, orange head... and a fantastic photobomb.

I can only imagine what they're thinking; "This is so hott. We know what's happening, but with the help of the dress and purse, no one else does. And certainly no one is photobombing a pic of us right now."

Man, woman or horse... that is the question.

I thought I had ridiculous poses... Glad Miss Blue Skirt is clearly not impressed.

That is in fact a guy lifting up your dress... Miss Smirnoff.

If this girl's outfit isn't enough to make you wanna take a picture, just imagine the lapdance-ee's thoughts the next day.

This is one sexy ass couple. *Ass Ass Ass Ass.*

Contrary to what you may think, lady, squeezing a cage-bar with your cheeks is not a good look.

One word: Yummy. Pictures everywhere!

This outfit totally rivals the neon mesh outfits of College Station.... I don't even know who wins.

There is a serious amount of showing tampon strings, awkward sweat-spots, pukes, and pees... but I thought I'd let you find those on your own. There's also a whole website for it.

If you ever wanna share something with me, always feel free to tweet it or post it on the Facebook group!
