wearing: fur and leather

A couple weeks ago I got to host Make-Up Date at Nordstrom. A bunch of ladies and bloggers gathered to check out TONS of products and win free thangs, and I got to be styled.

We took a ton of pictures, and yet this is the best and most halfway decent one.

It's a much different outfit than I would normally buy for myself, but I fully enjoyed rocking it.

-525 vest
-BB Dakota leather dress
-camel fringe/suede booties that I got from zulily
-NYX Butter Lipstick that is a color that they apparently discontinued

Unfortunately I didn't get to keep the dress or vest, but they had hefty price tags so I guess a girl can try and understand sometimes.

Now I'm on the hunt for cheaper versions, but fur vests without spending a pretty penny look awful.

wearing: bohemian boyfriend

My dresser drawers are literally breaking because they're too full, I have to get new hangers every time I go to the store, and yet I'm constantly buying new clothes. I blame the purple hair and needing a new wardrobe.

I've been getting a lot from SheIn.com.... which is a bit of a gamble. I've kept maybe half of the stuff, but it's pretty cheap and the quality is hit or miss.

I got this top the other day and I'm pretty into it. It's different and flowy and makes me feel a little sexy because of the side boob action [assuming I had side boob to show.... let's be honest].

I go through phases where I really like my boyfriend jeans, even if I'm not totally sure how to style them. This is one of those times in my life. I probably need to find some better fitting ones, but they're just so comfortable and life is about figuring things out- right?!

-top from SheIn
-boyfriend jeans from NY&Co
-sandals from Kohls
-big blue earrings from a boutique at the beach

Next time there will be heels involved but let's be real: They're not that fun to wear all day in the office when you don't have to.

wearing: black and white jacquard curtains

Okay, so maybe I'm not wearing curtains, but this dress matches my bedroom so it feels like it.

It's ironic that I'm posting this outfit because I have had this dress for two years and never once worn it. I always thought it was way too big, but I guess that's the beauty in gaining some weight. [which to be honest- is why I haven't been posting. Sigh]

Someone was finally around to take a couple pictures, in an empty mall parking lot, and now here we are.
Because I never know how to pose.... [Don't even bother blowing it up looking for my underwear. I already did, sucka.]

It's a little wide, but it's really so comfortable. There are cinches right under the boobs and right above the butt to create "shape," but I felt like I was swimming in it before. Now I'm just confused about how I should accessorize this pattern.
-dress from Forever21
-booties from Marshalls
-Kendra Scott earrings [c/o]
-necklace from Forever21
-total cost: $40ish

Funny thing is, I wore the same earrings and booties with another outfit last time I got a new dress, this one from Express [clearance, holla!]

[NOT "HOLLA" for phone mirror selfies as good outfit pics. I need a roommate... or a trainer for Slutty so she can take the pics and not try to be in all of them.]

Real talk about something I really don't wanna hear any response to unless it's motivation to get my ass in the gym- as much as people say it doesn't matter what we look like when we're in radio, I've been suffering in Struggle City with my weight this summer, yet not doing a damn thing about it. For a couple months I felt like I was busting my ass in the gym, eating healthy, and still gaining weight. I decided to just give up on the effort. What I've come to accept is that I think I'm hitting my "woman body" and it's going to be harder to work off this weight than in the past. I need to stop eating free food just because it's free, and stop believing people when they say I look fine because I don't feel fine. That's ultimately what's important. It's also important to get back to posting and hustling and making dreams come true so if you see me eating 3700+ calories in a night, kick my ass. Thanks, love ya, bye.

photo diary: my trip to nashville!

Month #5 of my new year's resolution took me to the city I've wanted to visit for so many years: NASHVILLE!

It was weird how it happened. I traveled the weekend before but my friend mentioned how she was going and I said I probably couldn't make it happen.
Next thing I know I'm looking up flights [that were hella cheap], asking everyone I know if they're going to be in town, finding a friend to go with me, and asking for days off right after getting my promotion.

You see, when all your busy singer/songwriter friends are actually in Nashville at a time you can go, you go. That doesn't happen often. [Like I've always said- never say no right away! Never rule things out without truly investigating!]

My friend Jared [who I wrote about way back when I first started this here blog] opened his doors for us and gave us the best experience I could have imagined [with help from his fantastic roommate who I assaulted on night one... woops].

*And now I will apologize if I just gush for WAY too long, but I'm on cloud 9 after visiting so... it's probably going to happen.*Not only did I get to reunite with my long lost drunken friend, but I also spent some quality time with my high school friend Rachel, who is 1/2 of Native Run. She took us out on this rooftop and holy view at sunset.

We spent a decent amount of time hanging around the houses. Normally I'd be all bothered about hanging inside while visiting a new city, but when you get to see some [really good] songwriters just working on their craft, you don't move. I feel like I was actually a quiet version of myself because I was constantly so amazed by their singing and lives and conversations. One girl, Kelly Archer, was celebrating her song that is going to be released by Reba and Jennifer Nettles!!!

As much as I talk to artists, I never get to hear that part of the story. They deserve so much more credit than they get. I asked Jared so many questions and let him know that when I play his song for the first time, I'm going to cry like a proud mama. [And I'll absolutely let you know what it is.]

Two of the most fun, beautiful and talented people I know... quite the combo.

Of course we also did some touristy things because like, necessary. Went downtown to see 30+ Bachelorette parties happening on Saturday night, then drank on a roof [at Acme, in case you go soon!] with high school friends on Sunday. Can we talk about this view from the bar?! That's the Titans stadium to the left.

[outfit deets: Forever 21 racerback tank, Charlotte Russe lace kimono, jorts from Kohls and my fantastic cowboy boots, of course]

It was also 100% necessary to spend one day going bar to bar, getting a drink at each one on Broadway St, and listening to the constant live music that started early in the morning.

And being a true tourist and taking alllll the scenery photos also needed to happen.

We were walking on the pedestrian bridge and someone was filming something intense, and we just walked right in front to get our pics first. They then told me to work the camera. This is the beauty that resulted.... proving I should be a model.

[outfit deets: dress from Target, boots from zulily, green purse from Target, and gold dangly earrings]

And of course, a stop at my BFF Deacon Claybourne's house.

[outfit deets: favorite new hat and plain green tee from Target, black jorts from Charlotte Russe, zulily boots]

Right next door was a house that Scarlett rented one season...

But what fascinated me the most was the condition of the houses right across the street! I expected this pristine neighborhood perfect for filming... not so much.

The houses in Nashville are the most gorgeous though. I love that it's a cute little suburb a mile outside of the city. I even found one for sale that I'll obviously buy whenever I make this city my home.

Try and tell me you wouldn't wanna party here... I dare you.

Okay, so I'm probably not going to be moving there... but have you ever been heartbroken by an object or city?! No joke- I fell in love with that place and all the people there, as I expected... and now I'm moping around because I just want to go back ASAP. I felt so at home so quickly, it was kinda crazy. The perfect mix of southern country living and a ton of hustlers is my Heaven.

Thank you to Jared, Django and Rachel for making me love it so much! Looks like I'll have to take more than one trip a month soon....

Luckily, my next two trips are pretty simple... but you'll see those when the time comes.

And again, I know people get all pissed at the "never say no" thing because of rape or whatever, but it's true. Make things happen. Do things. Experience things. Ask things. No excuses, just do it. Look at everything I could have missed out on if I stuck to my "there's no way I can do that."

wearing: not so basic basics

Somehow "basic" became one of the worst things to ever be. I used to love stocking up on all kinds of basics so I could throw them together into a simple but decent outfit. Now... how dare I step foot into any sort of "basic" section in a store.

Then I throw on this sweater/sweatshirt type of thing and realize as fancy as the zippers and different materials may be, it's still a girl wearing a sweater, scarf, and boot socks.

I'm not mad about it.

-top from NYC boutique
-scarf from Charlotte Russe
-Express jeans from TJ Maxx
-boot socks/leg warmer things from TJ Maxx
-boots from Target

On Mondays, I want nothing to do with getting ready or picking out an outfit, so something like this is perfect. And ya know what... the zippers seem pretty damn fancy to me.

what ya wearin for the holidays

I miss seeing your outfits every week! And it makes me sad every time someone brings up how much they loved doing it... but sometimes a girl has to move on from the things she loves, y'know?!

That doesn't mean I can't bring it back for all the holidays, so a few of you jumped in on Christmas Day.

@jennay_z went with the sparkles and animal prints while @alizook went with the cozy winter look.

I love the red hat, scarf, and make-up on @its_just_lay

@siarrahhh also rocked some animal print and sparkles on the shoes

I can't even handle the awesome matching of @iceiceandrew and his family.

Pretty white lace and a simple necklace for @hlucas87

And @kelsey_hillery0207 went pretty lace and chiffon on top.

As for me, my Christmas Day outfit was lacy too, with this green top from Forever21, Express jeans, and Old Navy booties.

Some other outfits I wore for station events:

I wore this for my VA Beach station's "Not So Silent Night" event, which I still need to post about.
-dress from my clothing swap
-DSW/Guess booties
-amazing blue necklace from Charming Charlie

And you've already seen the pictures from Jingle Ball, but here are some outfit details.

It was hard to see in any pictures I posted, but my skirt had a little print to it. When I first got it, I actually hated it. It reminded me of a sports jersey material or something. In the end, it worked.
I also promised myself to not wear anything from the "typical" stores this year, but after ordering a couple hundred dollars worth of things from online stores and none of them working, I scrambled the morning of. The top is from Forever21 and the skirt/necklace from Charlotte Russe.

I fully enjoyed my accessories, though. The first ring is from Express, and the bow ring from BlueLans. I also had a few other stackables and a pretty manicure that I forgot to take a picture of before ripping them all off.

Thanks to everyone who tagged their pics! We'll obviously do it for #WYWNYE, so plan on it!

wearing: winter reds and blues

After talking to Danni from the Kane Show, I realized I'm going through what most people who just had a baby go through: A need for change. Or maybe it's the fact that I'm single now... or the fact that I feel like my fun purple hair doesn't match my wardrobe, but I'm in need of an all new closet. Something with edge. Something with sex. What?

All that being said, Black Friday is still a week away so I'm left with the basics. At least scarves make getting dressed easy. Take a scarf, match the outfit to the colors. That's what I did yesterday while reminding myself how pretty a bright red and light blue are together in the winter.

-scarf from Charlotte Russe [they're typically $5 on Black Friday so jump on that!]
-tank from my clothing swap
-Express jeans from TJ Maxx
-cardigan also from Charlotte Russe
-booties from Target
-earrings from BlueLans

I have a love/hate relationship with fall/winter weather. I'm glad I can bundle up/cover up the football season gut I've gained, but it really is not flattering for any figure. Do you ever feel like it just makes you look even bigger? Sigh. Is it summer again yet?

wearing: a diy peplum top

What do you do when you get an article of clothing that fits pretty well, but is see-through or the wrong color or something? You dye it, duh.

I was forever looking for a white peplum shirt and got one from ASUS that fit well, but it was so see through and any tanks underneath looked ridiculous. When I realized it was too late to return it, I decided to just try and dye it.

Even though the threading didn't change colors, I love the way it turned out! And now I think I'll become addicted to dying things custom colors.

-peplum top from ASUS
-floral jeans from Forever21
-grey suede pumps from H&M
-necklace from Charlotte Russe

I still can't decide if the peplum shape is flattering or not on me. Honest opinions are very welcome.

Also... I'm trying to get every last day out of tanks before I have to start pairing them with jackets every day. That's annoying.

wearing: a warm fall

It seems like as soon as Labor Day comes, everyone switches to Fall colors, no more summer dresses or bright colors... but not me. The only difference is that I shave less, so pants and maxi dresses are more prevalent for that reason only.

I decided to go all bright and more Springy the other day and I regret nothing.

-pants from H&M
-zipper back top from TJ Maxx
-shoes from Charlotte Russe
-necklace from BlueLans

I love those pink pants, but they get so baggy in the knees very quickly. I'm going to assume that's because they're cheap, huh? That's what I get for paying $5 for pants.

Simple, fun colors, and a necklace to bring in a little blue. Easy.

PS Today is officially my 6 year anniversary of this blog! I'm proud and had to share. Thank you so much for visiting this here website and keeping me going with it. It's the longest commitment I've had beyond college, and that wasn't totally my choice.
