watch: my american idol covers "say something"

So one of my closest friends and favorite people in the world tried out for American Idol this summer and SPOILER ALERT: He made it to Hollywood!

All I can say now is that you should absolutely get to know him. He's always been an amazing singer and I'm so glad he's finally going 110% after his dreams. He deserves to be noticed and praised and loved by the world!

He started a new thing today- "Serenade Thursdays." He's going to post a cover every Thursday and this is his first one- a beautiful version of "Say Something."

Is his voice not amazing?! Gah! I can't wait to see him on my TV next week!

In the meantime, you should probably subscribe to him, follow him on Twitter and Instagram, and send some love!

People chasing their dreams is a beautiful thing... and it's a bonus when they have tremendous talent.

watch: fantastic impressions of all the biggest divas

If you're one of those people who's like "women suck at being funny and doing impressions and making me laugh," first of all: Girl Code. Second of all: Watch this and shut your mouth forever.

Christina Bianco sings "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and changes up her style every time someone yells a different name. Get ready to see/hear everyone from Adele to Bette Midler to Celine Dion, and of course some B-Spears.

How fantastic is that?! Some of them were a little off, [I'm not sure if I loved the Britney one] but she totally nailed others [Celine, Adele.. Xtina's trying-too-hard vocals]... Kristin Chenoweth and Julie Andrews were also perfect. [How does Kristin sing so well after talking the way she does?!?]

This makes me wanna see this lady in real life. Turns out, that probably won't be very easy... but we can watch another impression reel, this time including Drew Barrymore, Amy Winehouse, and even Dora the Explorer.

SHE'S SO GOOD! I'm jealous of her talent. And now I'm going to spend more time watching her videos so bye.

watch: nsync does a cover of "that thing you do"

Either my memory has gone to sh!t or I never knew they did this [I'm going to proudly say it's a memory issue since I'd hate to have missed out on this for my whole life 'til now], but way back in the day... NSYNC did a cover of "That Thing You Do!" while on tour.

Fun fact: That Thing You Do is my favorite movie OF ALL TIME. Like easily, hands down.

I think I had a little girl orgasm while watching this just now.

OMG HOW CUTE ARE THEY?! And like, how great?! And OMG GET BACK IN MY LIFE @(#*&$@#!!!!

To the boy bands of today: This is how you be awesome and relevant. Step it up, yo.

watch: ed sheeran covers/mashes up no diggity and thrift shop

I have clearly underestimated the power of Ed Sheeran. People told me he was awesome and I should educated myself more, but I was stubborn busy.

He teamed up with a dude named Passenger to do a cover of "No Diggity," and they mashed it up with "Thrift Shop" at the end. Hott damn get ready for some talent.

Those voices are just my favorite. So chill, so enjoyable. I want more!

Fine, I'll give in. Time to go watch some Ed Sheeran videos.

watch: pretty acoustic cover of "get low"

If you're at work, you need to stop whatever you're doing and put on some headphones. If you're not, you need to turn your volume all the way up. This ish is GREAT.

Dude goes into a coffee shop and performs an acoustic version of "Get Low"... ridiculous words and all.

How BEAUTIFUL is that!?!? It's like, part of me is laughing and part of me thinks it's the prettiest song ever.

BRB, I'm gonna go download it like, right now.

watch: glee's cool version of britney's "crazy"

I don't watch Glee often, but when I do, it's when they're doing Britney episodes.

Okay, that meme is so overdone... but it's true! As much as I love seeing/hearing the show's covers, I think the rest of it mostly sucks.

Last night was Britney 2.0 episode, and all of it was pretty good [not as good as the first one], but this was my favorite song/cover/part:

By now you should know I just love when people take songs and switch them around to be their own, and that's what they did. I love it. Like... it's on repeat right now.

And that's the end of me being park Gleek.

watch: more awesome 90s songs sang a capella

I've posted about a group that did an a capella cover of a bunch of 90s songs before, and now I've found a one man band!

This guy gets some NSYNC and... well, I don't wanna spoil the surprise, but it's awesome.

He's not the most amazing singer I've ever heard, but everything else is so on point! I love it. Duh.

watch: sam tsui does a britney spears medley

As if I didn't think Sam Tsui was the greatest thing already, he had to go ahead and do THIS.

This mix is amazing even if it was a DJ doing it, and for him to sing and play it all- INCREDIBLE. I like it best when he breaks it down and sings, but that's cuz I'm obsessed with his voice.

"I'm addicted to you, could you hit me baby one more time?!"

Why yes. I will waste spend 5 more minutes of my life listening to it... again, and again.

tim halperin and x factor's hayley orrantia cover justin bieber's "boyfriend"

Hott damn. Tim Halperin is on top of it. One day after the Biebs released "Boyfriend," which is a SMASH, by the way, he teamed up with the X Factor/Lakoda Rayne's Hayley Orrantia to cover it.

It's real good. Duh.

They've been teaming up quite a bit, along with Kidd Kraddick, and they just sound so good together! I love the match up a lot. They should probably make babies.

...musical babies, I mean... of course..........

watch: sam tsui covers kelly clarkson's "stronger"

Oh, hi Sam Tsui. Welcome back to my blog.

He covered KClark's "Stronger" [which is a really fantastic song] and it's beautiful as always:

It may not be my favorite cover of his [that belongs to Hold It Against Me], but I still have it on repeat. Love, love, love.

listen/watch: sam tsui's summer song medley

As usual, I'm obsessed with Sam Tsui's latest upload. He combined the biggest songs of the Summer [a couple weeks/months late, but I'm not mad at him] in one song that you will totally love.

Ugh, it's so good! And now that he's doing this stuff, it's like I don't know if I like his or DJ Earworm's mash-ups better! Good thing they're sorta different enough to enjoy both unconditionally!

If you wanna download it for free, holler at it here.

PS: If you were wondering, the songs included are:
  • Edge of Glory
  • Give Me Everything
  • Last Friday Night
  • Super Bass
  • Party Rock Anthem

watch: super white cover of "get low"

My internet-aholic friend Keith sent this video to me with the caption "F#@*in white people" and I don't think he could have said it any better.

This cover of "Get Low" is a bit awkward at first, and probably all the way through, but it's also hilarious and pretty good, talent wise.

I mean... singing "oh skeet skeet, mother f#@*er" in such a pretty tone.... o_O

Now it's stuck in my head.

PS: My conversation with said friend ended with this: "If it comes out of my mouth it's white gold." I freaking love my friends sometimes.

PPS: Check out the comments on the YouTube page. They're also gold.

watch/listen: bet you've never heard britney's toxic sound like this

This is pretty incredible.

I love the original song by Britney, obvi, but this is such a completely different, stripped down version of "Toxic," it's impossible not to like.

Just beautiful. It gets better as it goes on.

I like her version of Katy Perry's "ET," too. Consider me a fan.

watch/listen: a capella group does zac brown band

I told you about the a capella group Hyannis Sound when they did a song for the tsunami in Japan, and now my friend sent me their version of Zac Brown Band's "Colder Weather" and I'm in LOVE.

I may be partial to it because I love the song and the person singing it, but seriously... It'll give you goosebumps.

Love, love, love. I recommend checking out more... Just sayin'.

watch: the one-man-band disney movie

Continuing on with my obsession of a-capella performances, this guy decides he wants to play ALL parts of your typical Disney movie.

Seriously. He can sing the female part, the prince, and even the scary bad guy! A lot of people are questioning the realness of this, but I believe! I ALWAYS believe! It's Disney, dangit!

Normally a video that long wouldn't keep me for so long, but he's entertaining! And SO good! He's been doing it for years, so check out his other stuff from before this kind of video was cool.

watch: little girl covers "born this way"

I've been meaning to post this since Friday, but.. well, I have no real excuse.

For the stragglers or slackers who may have somehow missed this, check out this little 10 year old girl sing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way." [Pretty sure she's been on Ellen before, BTW. I'll look into it.]

INCREDIBLE, right?! It's amazing how different people can make a song sound so much more real. Maybe this means the future of music will be talented again.

love,
elizabethany

PS: I'm NOT saying Gaga's not talented, because she is... But you'd never know it unless you watched her acoustic or old stuff.

watch: sam tsui's "hold it against me" cover

I've expressed my obsession with this guy Sam Tsui before, and now he's covering MY GIRL!

It's amazing to me how different and beautiful he can make these songs sound. Check out the latest- "Hold It Against Me."

How amazingly BEAUTIFUL is that?! Gah. In love.

Also in love with his original song, "Start Again."

His producer/videographer is incredible, too. An AMAZING team. I hope they end up getting some sort of "Never Say Never" story.

watch: awesome cover of love the way you lie

Look- I'm just as sick as you are of this freakin' song, but sometimes someone else's version can make it awesome again.

This girl's singing is beautiful, and worth your ear.

I just love when someone switches it up just enough to make it likable again. Props, girl!

watch/listen: amazing mash-up cover of 3 hit songs

I am OBSESSED with this cover/mash-up of Love the Way You Lie, Dynamite, and Teenage Dream.

Seriously... I've listened to it nonstop for the past two days and that rarely happens when I first hear a song or watch a video.

I've talked about this guy, Sam Tsui, before, and now he's proving that he is amazing and needs to take over J. Biebs' spot. Yeah, I said it. Just listen-

I have officially downloaded it, for free, and legally.

I love when random, unsigned people make a song that's already popular 10 times better. I can enjoy them again!
