exclusive interview: lfo plays truth or dare AND their new song!

A couple months ago I got an email from a "Brad" saying he was a fellow 90s loving and fanny pack wearing freak. Turns out, it was BRAD FROM FREAKING LFO.

LFO= one of the few albums that I'd say defined my life. I know every word to it. I was effing pumped to get this email.

He said he was coming to town and wanted to come in to the studio and all I could say was HELL YES.

Fast forward to today and they came! Brad and Devin joined me in our Southwest Soundstage to chat, play Truth or Dare Jenga, and play their new song. Then they surprised me by challenging me to sing every word to "Summer Girls.." IN THE MIDDLE OF THEM. I immediately turned 14 again, blushed the whole time, and freaked the freak out.

Talking to people that I never even DREAMED of having the chance to meet will never get old... or normal. I kept telling them that it felt surreal, even if "the main guy" wasn't there. Now I can forgive my mom for not paying hundreds of dollars for me to see them way back when. She thanks you for that, LFO.

video: playing the floor is lava with kip moore

Confession: "The Floor Is Lava" is my favorite game since beer pong. It's hilarious, even when you play it virtually.

So I knew I had a couple seconds to talk to Kip Moore [after watching him be SO ADD during his performance that it made me feel normal] and decided to see if he played the game.

Answer: he doesn't. While he refused to play, he did have a response that made it absolutely perfect and further proof that country artists live like normal ass people.


Another normal person story: He took an Uber to the station, and then another Uber all the way to his Baltimore hotel.

If you ever get the chance to see him, do it. He's hilarious and crazy talented.

riding the capital wheel with natalie la rose

Just like when we brought MKTO to a fan's house for a backyard sesh, and a tour of DC with Tori Kelly, we've been trying to provide experiences for people that they'll never forget.

Natalie La Rose came to town and we decided to take her to the Capital Wheel at the Harbor and do a little singalong at the top.

Originally I figured we'd have her sing her songs and stare in awe, but then something else magical* happened. We all sang the national anthem while going around.

*not sure if magical is the word, but you be the judge.

We then went to lunch and let these two winners ask her anything, grub on whatever they wanted, and just have a beautiful afternoon at the Harbor. Not a bad Wednesday.

It feels good to meet people and see them with the stare of "wow, what is happening." It's also pretty neat to see DC from on top of a ferris wheel.

videos/pics: crashing a backyard with mkto

By now it should be pretty obvious how much I love Malcolm and Tony of MKTO. We have allll the fun together whenever they come, which seems to be pretty often.

This time we switched it up AGAIN by crashing the backyard of one of their biggest fans instead of just doing something here in the studio.

It was pretty awesome being able to make it so intimate for such a big fan, and they're so fun that it was easy. How many people get to say they sat down in their backyard and just chatted in the grass with their favorite band?!?

I love being opinionated and ridiculous, but it's even more fun seeing someone's eyes light up when dreams come true. It's incredible to know I was a part of a moment she is definitely going to remember for the rest of her life. She'll be telling her grandkids that some chic from the machine that played music in your vehicle had purple hair and brought her dreamboats to her home. That's neat.

video/interview: max [schneider] stops in the studio

If you're a fanatic of YouTube covers like I am, you have definitely watched some from Kurt Hugo Schneider, which likely means you've seen MAX as well.

I was really pumped to have him in one Saturday morning. We had a super fun chat...



And he also performed his latest single "Gibberish." [Give it like 30 seconds to load... our stupid player is stupid slow. NOT mah bad.]


He's easily one of the best vocalists I've had in this here studio. SO good.

He also did his version of "See You Again," which I could post... but might as well just post his video for the best effect.



INCREDIBLE, RIGHT?! Gah.

I'm also incredibly honored to have so much of this here promo video be from his visit with us. I may not be SHOWN in it, but I'm heard, starting around the 1:12 mark.



There's no pretending that having someone come in on a Saturday isn't a little difficult, but this was totally worth it. Dude is not only crazy talented but just so grounded and easy to talk to.

SO... turns out she's a 17 year old Swedish singer and was set to come into the studio. Obviously I had to turn it into a very unique game that no one else would ever be down with.

Her mom was in the room, and I dared her to race me in putting condoms on crazy ish. Those Swedes are a lot more liberal than we are, though. their openness in sex talk is ridiculously refreshing. They called us Americans out for almost whispering every time we mention condoms on the air. That's just silly.

So who wins?


Yeah, that was bad on my part. Like, really bad. I don't even have nails and I still managed to break them all. Hey Trojan- have any comment on why a grown ass woman can't make it happen?

Seriously, though... that girl is a champ. I'm speechless.

Kim Cesarion: Super swaggerific Swede with a really fun and underrated song.

He came in to perform and I invented a new game that is like Heads Up or charades, but with old fashioned paper.

The people that I had to act out had to have been rigged. It was out of control.


I should probably work on having nicer things to say but like... IT'S NOT MY FAULT I HAD TO ACT OUT PEOPLE WHO SUCK. I promise honesty in my opinions, so....

watch etv: playing "heads up" with jesse mccartney

We had Jesse McCartney into our studio TWICE within a couple months. I feel like I've died and gone to my high school heaven.

Since I already dared him to recreate an old picture with me, I let him off easy this time and we just did a game of Heads Up. I like being able to get two fans involved, and that it automatically gives me two angles of the video, duh.


Next time I'm gonna make us all act out animals or something. There's WAAAYYYY too many words up in there, amiright?! I wanna see Jesse McCartney act out an inchworm.

video interview: justice crew teaches me some "dance" moves

Justice Crew: A bunch of dancers from Australia's Got Talent who turned into a full on guy singing group, with a fantastic song called "Que Sera" that has lyrics worthy of Pinterest shares.

Their song broke records on the ARIA charts, which is basically like the hipster version of the Billboard charts. [Over in Australia.. same thing as Billboard, but their number 1s don't make it to America til WAYYY later.]

We talked about this crazy awesome Australian sunset, hearing their song on the radio, and then they taught me how to do their crazy "swing move." Spoiler alert: This is my face afterwards.

Never say no to anything, right?! Oof.

They were cool guys, and I could listen to their accents forever... plus- dancers AND singers?! Sweet baby Jesus could these be better catches for future husbands?!

video: playing "heads up" with mkto

MKTO has now hung out with me/my stations three times, and I had to switch things up again. I had some dares I really wanted to do, but since we already did the stilts thing, I figured we'd play a little of Ellen's "Heads Up" app.

I downloaded the 90s deck because of their "Classic" references, and figured I'd rock it.... I was wrong.


*sigh* I'm so embarrassed by how terrible I was! And that I got too excited to remember to save Tony's video on my phone because his "Thighmasters" face was unbelievable.

Also.. I've always thought they were talented, but seriously- how great is Tony's voice?! I wish we had the entire performance posted to show you, but hopefully soon. Props to them for making sure every one of their fans in our studio had tickets to the show, too.

etv: truth or dare with rixton

It's a crazy busy time in the studios this month! Lots of people coming by and hopefully I'll be able to quickly share everything with you!

Rixton came in the other day [they sing "Me and My Broken Heart"] and totally blew me away with their talent and just overall charisma. I didn't have much time to play with them, but we did get to do a couple truth or dares.

A cover of "Old McDonald," an impression of their friend Ed Sheeran, and who they'd rather have join the group- Bieber or Kanye... are some of the highlights.

Check out their performances! I was a little disappointed they didn't do their cover of "Ignition Remix" but I'll let it slide this time.

Also, our 1-2-3-pose picture was one of the most ridiculous I've ever taken.. if not THE most ridic.

Sometimes artists come in and you think the same of them. Sometimes you're disappointed... but after meeting these guys, I'm definitely rooting for them more than before.

eTV: truth or dare with 5 seconds of summer

I finally found [or re-found, really..] something that seems to work and be fun and be "me" when it comes to visits from artists... a little Truth or Dare, duh!

Way back in the day, I played it with Raini and Rico Rodriguez [of Austin and Aly/Modern Family]... but now I've started doing it with the groups that come in while also getting their fans involved.

Yesterday we had 5 Seconds of Summer. They toured with One Direction and that's the same kinda fanbase they have. Imagine screaming girls showing up at 7am for a 3:00 event, then chasing the black cars into a major roadway or jumping into moving cars to chase them that way. Yeah. It's crazier than any stalking that I've done.

Watch as the guys have to do impressions of celebs, sing duets with listeners, and try to dodge truth questions like it's the okay thing to do.

It's fun, right?! I laugh a lot and die a little inside every time I watch the twerking and moonwalking... but we'll blame it on the carpet.. or... something.

Clearly I'll have to lay down some ground rules like "no trying to get out of answering a truth question, even if you can't think of one." I also wanna start getting everyone involved in picking out what the cards/options are... so start thinking!

watch etv: i got to talk to emblem3 again

Remember that time Emblem 3 came in, I interviewed them, and then OMG ATTACK OF THE INTERNETS!!!?

Well... I got the... interesting news that my first interview here in DC would be with them. No one here knew what all had happened, so I was a bit nervous to have to explain it all. [Ya see, I ended up getting in trouble for responding/posting tweets... which is just ridiculous] When I did, they were pumped for me to be able to bring it up again with E3 and hopefully get some good radio.

So, as the boys entered the room, I gave no warm up... we got right into it.

BAM, EMBLEMS! Guess who wins! ME! Told ya it was all in fun. They had no issue with me and my main complaint was the one I had before: Their lack of really talking about anything besides some video game that they rambled on about.

Still, they have fun songs, they're fun to look at, and their fans [clearly] love them, so I'm glad we got everything cleared up for the world to see.

watch: interview and exclusive performance with cody simpson

Keeping up with our fun-filled week at work, Cody Simpson did a performance for the re-opening of one of our malls and Tax Free Weekend.

If you don't know Cody Simpson [even though this is the third time I've talked to him], he's a 16 year old heartthrob for teen girls. So imagine hundreds of them packed into a mall corridor, screaming at the top of their lungs.

Luckily I have a volume control when editing video, huh?! Make sure you stay tuned for the stampede at the end.

I think I did a pretty good job at capturing how insane it all was. Even Cody was pretty shocked/blown away/deaf after hearing them scream when he took the stage. And seriously... it was at least a hundred of them that chased him out of the mall, and some that ran after the car.

We also got a few minutes to talk to him in the back. Since we've done a couple interviews before, we didn't ask much... but it's interesting to see what he picks as memorable ways his fans have tried to win tickets.

Think I'll get attacked for laughing at his wallpaper?

He was a little different than the other two times we've met up with him, but I'm sure it's just cuz he's touring with bad boy Justin Bieber exhausted from touring and "being on" non-stop.

I wanna say that I would have never acted like any of that if I had seen NSYNC back in the day... but I don't think I would have ever even dreamt of getting such an opportunity, so it's tough to say. Fans have such awesome access to their fave celebs these days.

It was one of those days I'm going to look back on when I'm old and be like "my job was so freakin' cool," cuz it is. It's awesome to see people come out and give so much support for anything, and to say hi to us. It's awesome to be able to make so many people happy.

watch: exclusive interview with emblem3

It's been an exciting three days with the station! We had a performance with Cody Simpson at the mall on Sunday [more of that to come... I'm still editing the massive, deafening screams], and then had MKTO and Emblem 3 in for an acoustic performance today!

Emblem3 was on X-Factor and had a fan base that I never understood, but now they've got a catchy song about the only cool Kardashian- Khloe. [Or "Chloe," as they say...]

I got a chance to ask them a couple questions before their performance. Unfortunately I didn't get to ask the questions I was warming them up to because they totally took the interview and derailed it [in a funny way] and their "team" said it was time to play some music.

EDIT 8/7: LOL at the comments on the YouTube page. People are [trying to] eat me alive! Saying I'm rude and disrespectful... it just made my morning. Some people don't know how to relax. 

[[[[EDIT 3:30PM]]]] Someone took the video down. It wasn't me, nor have I been informed of the reason why it was deleted from the station's account. As of now I haven't gotten in trouble, and I don't plan on it. I did nothing wrong but joke around with some guys who were non-stop joking the entire time. I'm not even sorry that I'm not sorry.

I knew they were a bit out there, but I honestly didn't expect that interview to be so ADD and silly. It was fun, though! And I'll take a silly interview over a boring, scripted, etc one any day!

I wish I could tell you more about them, but we didn't have a whole lot of time beyond what you saw to get to know these guys. They did make a different pose/face in every picture, which was neat. Also, Keaton is clearly the one that keeps them all on track and probably gets a little upset when they're making fools of themselves.

MKTO was awesome as always, and performed in their sweats. One more meet-up and we're officially BFF's. [I've decided it takes three meetings with someone before you can claim that status.]

watch: capital cities gave us an exclusive performance!

You may not have heard of Capital Cities, but they're up and coming and probably a name you should get to know. They have a song called "Safe and Sound" that we're now playing, and the music video for it is one of my favorites I've seen in a while. [They do a history of dance unlike anything I've ever seen!]

We invited them to our "HOT Lounge," which is at Gordon Biersch here in Virginia Beach, to perform for no more than 30 people. They were incredibly talented, and I enjoyed!


I didn't get much of a chance to talk to them, but they seemed like really awesome, down to Earth guys. The trumpet player and I became BFF... but the kind of BFF that I didn't even get his name because I suck.

They also did an acoustic version of their song "Love Away," which they've apparently never done, and I so wish that's what I had recorded. Everyone in the room immediately fell in love with the song and performance.

Give 'em a listen and a look. You just might become a fan!

hanging out with 3OH!3 and american idol's chris richardson

It's been another busy couple of days with the station! On Thursday, we made a guest appearance at Landstown Middle School's pep rally. [More on that later this week. It was a BLAST, and I'm working on the video!] Friday was a show with 3OH!3 and Outasight in Norfolk.

While I didn't get to do an "8 Questions" video with either of them, they were still awesome guys to meet and see perform at the Norva.

Today I was super excited to have Chris Richardson stop by the studio. [He was season 6 of American Idol.] Now he's signed by YMCMB and promoting his first single "Joy and Pain."

He sang the song in the studio [BTW, I LOVE this song... it may or may not because I think he's hott and his voice is amazing, but it's good.] The guys also gave him a challenge of playing drums made out of Styrofoam cups.. and he did it, marvelously. Check it: 

He's a Chesapeake boy, so I'm sure he'll be around some more, and I can't wait for that. Yummy.

tim halperin performs in studio

Tweet I've been pretty pumped and tweeting about this for a few weeks, but finally the day came! Remember the AWESOME one take music video I posted a couple weeks ago?! The singer is Tim Halperin, he's living in Dallas/Fort Worth, and does shows in College Station! AWESOME!

He's doing a sorority tour right now [mmhmmmm] and was in College Station last night, so he stopped by for an in-studio interview and performance!

What's really awesome: He's been featured on Real World New Orleans TWICE! He got an email that he'd be featured and then probably had all the same feelings I did when he saw his name on the TV for the first time. [But I'll let him tell you that story in the podcasts below.]

Seriously, I think I'm about to become obsessed with him. He's an amazing singer and totally cool! He even told me I was "dabomb.com," not once, but twice.

DEFINITELY take a listen to the podcast interview [I call him a slut and find out what it takes to make a viral video] and watch the video of his performance [which included a freakin' AWESOME "Party in the USA" cover!]. You might fall in love too. I also turned his songs into podcasts for your listening pleasure, but you have to subscribe for those.

elizabethany exclusive: meet jared mullins

The last time I went to Morgantown, I stumbled upon someone who I absolutely have to share with you, especially if you're a country fan.

And when I say stumble, I mean quite literally. My crazy, loud, hickey contest havin' BFF and I walked out of the club and jumped in for a ride home only to discover we were hangin' with a country singer who's trying [and bound] to make it big.


His name: Jared Mullins.
Our night: Hilarious.

He performed a couple songs for us, and I made sure to catch it all on tape. I want to be able to say that I showed him to everyone first when his songs hit the radio waves.

Now it's time for you to get to know him. Here's Jared, late-night Morgantown style, singing a beautiful song he wrote about his grandmother and talking about his hidden talent:



And this next song is more fun. It's called "The Here and Now" and was also written by him.



Keep in mind that we were in Morgantown, and it was 3am or maybe later.

Jared Mullins is going to be huge. I just know it. What I don't know is when he'll finally make it to the level he can and should be at.

His voice is phenomenal, his attitude is great, he bleeds Country, and he's pretty easy on the eyes, ladies!
