hangover of love 013114

I feel like calling it just the Hangover now is weird... because sometimes they're not from the current week. And I'm going to start adding in some things on Pinterest that I've become obsessed with in the past week and AH! I'm so indecisive these days. It's a problem. Why am I rambling?! WTF was I even saying?

Just give it to 'em, Internet.
And some Pinterest treasures:

English

We did this at Columbia Christian College to play Monopoly
True story.
18 Ways To Make The Best Of Your Twenties: Spend quality time with your friends that doesn't involve going to a bar and texting other people.
OMG!!

And as always, I was a blogging machine with all the share-worthy things on my HOT blog!
[My #1 recommendation is the Full House reunion on Jimmy Fallon, in case you somehow missed that.]

throwback thursday: how lizzie mcguire inspired our lives

Lizzie McGuire was on from 2001-2004, and if you watched it... her fashion and live inspired everything you did.

I was in high school while it was airing [which may or may not be weird to get inspired by Disney in high school], and would sometimes wake up an extra hour early just to do a combination crimp and curl like her.

If only I had a picture of me with that 'do.... I swear I did it all the time as a sophomore or junior. Oh dear.

Since it's throwback Thursday, I figured we might as well take a look back at the AMAZING fashions from our BFFs Lizzie and Miranda.

Bandanas: a must-have in every fabric, color, and design.

Also mandatory: Cornrolls/cornrows whatever the eff they are.

Don't wanna do either of those? Fine... grab a Kangol or bucket hat.

OR just get some colored ponytail extensions.

If you don't have a muscle shirt [preferably with the slit or bedazzling] you're nothing.

Butterflies, flares, and showing belts will also get you in with the crew.

Look how ahead of the times she was! We're even wearing jean jackets and patterned pants nowadays!

Matching headbands and chokers are also necessary in bulk.

I guess we can also blame her for smiling with our mouth wide open...

And for all the guys who are mad they get stuck in the friend-zone... blame Gordo.

If I had all my high school pictures here, I'd totally reflect back on all of these... but this is all I've got right now.

That hair and the high-necked shirt and choker... and the hat with the belt on display... [I thought I was cute setting up a sheet and taking pictures of myself like that.. which isn't too far off from nowadays so I should shut up.]

What a fantastic show... but we really should have known that Disney fashion is RARELY something to mimic.

weekend outfits: stripes and bling

My brain is doing the complete opposite of working these days, and I'm even medicated again! But like... when you have a brain fart or writer's block when starting a fashion post, you have issues.

And now I don't know what to say next.

Here's what I wore Friday, when I finally go to host my first DC club gig at Ultrabar!

-old boyfriend blazer from Forever21
-tank from Target
-pleather and lace leggings from White Owl Boutique [only $14!]
-bunch of necklaces from all over
-simple black pumps from Shoe Dept.

And I discovered this little trick with my leggings... If I just put a pair of opaque tights underneath, it not only keeps me warm, but takes away all my cellulite and wrinkles in the leggings!

It was super comfortable, I felt pretty sexy [even though I'm thinking it looked better in the dark than now...], and I was free to dance on the platforms or wherever I felt.

And Saturday...

-sweater from F21 clearance the other day for under $10!
-gray jeans, also from F21 a long time ago
-neon flats from Charlotte Russe
-neon rope and fake blinged out necklace from H&M for a DOLLAR!

I fully regretted this decision of flats in the winter.... but they were so perfect for the outfit!

I feel like I'm probably going to wear that outfit for the Super Bowl, too [it's kinda sorta almost their colors in real life]... Don't tell anyone, but I'm a big fan of the Seahawks because of their uniforms and colors. But seriously... that's top secret information because I sound like an annoying girl and they consistently beat the Redskins whenever we actually do make it to the playoffs.

So there are those.... now I'm going to go get some things and find a place in this apartment for all my lights and photography stuff so I can start posting semi-decent photos.

super bowl/football nails!

Ever heard of Jamberry nail wraps? Me neither... until a little while ago... and I was super pumped to try them out! As soon as I got them, I realized I had bit all my nails off one drunken night... because of course.

I decided to go to the nail salon for the first time in five years and get some acrylics [wow prices have gone up....] so I could make magic happen.

Naturally, with the Super Bowl coming up, I had them paint my nails burgundy so I could do a yellow/football accent nail myself! [I don't care if my 'Skins aren't in the game... I still rep them.

Pretty neat, RIGHT?!

They come as these little strips that you measure to your nails, peel off, heat up a little bit, and then bond them to your nail. [You can see the instructions video here.] It's definitely easy to do, but mine have a few wrinkles that I assume are just because it's not going to be perfect the first time. Luckily, they're not visible because most of the football wrap is clear.

These are all the designs I got...

I love that the football and chevron ones are clear backgrounds so that I can put whatever color I want underneath... and when I master these things, the other ones will be awesome to use to cover a whole nail with the quickness and hottness. They even have a ton of college ones!

They're supposed to last about two weeks, but since I just put mine on yesterday, I can't confirm that. I will totally update this whenever they do start to look trashy, though.

Also cool: They come in so many sizes that you could easily do your toes, too... or just do accent nails and they'll last a LONG time.

If you wanna try some out [which I think you should since nail art is "all the rage" right now and this is an awesome look that doesn't require an artist or a ton of money] check out this website and Jessica Causer, who gave me these! She also has some fun pics of her nails on her Instagram.

And since you know I like sales... she's doing buy 3, get one free! BAM!

Let me know if you've ever tried these things! Or just link your pics so we can see them!

snow day outfit, all up in the janus

Sometimes the over-hype of things that happen on the east coast is hilarious to me. I like making fun of people who go nuts... but I hate it when they get me all excited like it's going to be some huge snow storm that I can sled in [even though there are no hills], throw snowballs [at myself, mostly], and have a big snow day party with! Then.. BAM... six inches max... wet roads... and just a cold, un-enjoyable snow.

Okay, I'm done bitching... for now.

Underneath a ridiculous amount of layers for my walk/metro ride to work, I wore this outfit!

[Yeah... I couldn't decide which boots I liked better, so I took a picture with both.]
-sweater from the F21 clearance I told you about for $10!!
-jeans also from F21 $15
-the boots on the left are from Penneys for $20.. the right side is from Target for $17
-hat from Wet Seal for $1

So.. a very simple outfit, but I think the sweater is eye-catching enough to carry it all! I was mostly obsessed with the hat, though. I really want to wear more hats.

Also... it's obviously not the most flattering sweater. I could be a solid 40 pounds heavier under there and you'd never know... but that's also the beauty of oversized sweaters, I think.

I can't wait to show you what else I got from the clearance sales the other day! If this salt would go away, it'd be great for saving my new shoes from looking gross on day 1.

eb recipe: refreshing salmon wrap

Pretty sure I'm gonna have some new nickname all about how I only eat wraps for dinner soon... but like... SO WHAT! They're delicious and easy and there are unlimited ways to make your mouth orgasm from the goodies of a tortilla.

When I'm in need of something light, refreshing, and otherwise known as "healthy," my go-to is this salmon wrap that I concocted myself. It's typically not fresh salmon [because I ain't got time or money fo' dat], but everything else is fresh produce and straight up diet-abiding. [I think I just made up a word....]

Here's what you need:

  • Salmon filet or frozen salmon burger [what I used]
  • Tortilla- I recommend spinach or regular flavor
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1/2 cucumber
  • spoonful of greek yogurt
  • lime juice
  • chili powder
  • dried cilantro
  • dried mint [optional]

Here's what to do:
1. Cover salmon in chili powder on both sides and cook accordingly. Seriously, I put a lot of chili powder on that ish.

2. While the salmon is cooking, prepare the cucumber salad mixture- Chop up the cucumber. Mix it with 1 tbs dried cilantro [I might even use more than that], spoonful of greek yogurt, 1/2 tbs lime juice, and just a flick or two of the mint.

3. Slice up the avocado, and arrange on the tortilla.

4. Top that with the cucumber salad, then add the salmon on top.

5. Wrap it up and VOILA!

The best part about this is the cucumber salad stuff. A lot of times I make extra for a side or something... it's just so refreshing! You could totally pair it up with chicken or steak and it would be just as delicious.

Enjoy, you beginning-of-the-year health freaks!

wearing: sweater and leather

It was a little warmer the past couple days, so I didn't need a full coat, which made it perfect for a leather jacket!

I paired my favorite one from LC at Kohl's with my new go-to pants... the olive jeans from Charlotte Russe.

-jeans from Charlotte for $15
-sweater tee from F21 a long time ago
-leather jacket from Kohl's $40 [I bought it for an event]
-boots from Target $20
-purse to add a little contrast: thrifted!

I like that my sweater is such a deep v and the jacket has that buckle/snap at the top... it creates a fake cutout of sorts, right?!

The truth is.. I really wanna start posting a bajillion more outfit posts, but I've put on a quick 10 pounds while off my meds [I literally can't stop eating. I'd go to rehab if I could], so pictures aren't my favorite thing right now... but I'm working on it! Gotta work those angles, right?! [And before you're all "shut up, you can't even tell" or something, YOU shut up. :) I'm not looking for pity or saying I'm fat.. just opening up/sharing my weight fluctuation issues.]

Also... I felt like this outfit was really cute when I wore it yesterday, but now I'm realizing it's just like all the other outfits that everyone loves on Pinterest- mostly pretty plain. WHATEVER. I LIKE PLAIN, OKAY.

pinbusted recipe: crockpot apple oatmeal

What a letdown!

I randomly got a spurt of energy while doing my before-sleep pinning and saw this recipe for the overnight crockpot apple oatmeal. I immediately got up and put it all in the crockpot, expecting to wake up to delicious smelling breakast.

Fail. All I could smell 6.5 hours later was a little bit of burnt something. It was over an hour less than what it recommended, but still the bottom and sides were burned.

I tried it anyway... and.. well... it was worse than the smell.

It was a spongey, chewy, tasteless glob. I couldn't deal, no matter how hungry I was.

If you're going to make it, I'd do at least 3-4 cups of milk with 2-3 cups of water, and at least a tablespoon of cinnamon... and definitely don't cook it for the full 8-9 hours. Put that in the pot with two apples, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and two cups of oatmeal.

Or... if you've made it in some delicious way, please spill your secrets!

clearance sales to know about

I don't know what your plans are for this weekend, but I recommend hitting some of your favorite stores. Now that the holidays are over, everything is going on sale for them to get ready for the Spring Break attire. [Crazy, right?!]

This is my favorite time to shop at Forever21. Everything in clearance is an extra 50% off! here are some of the things I'm ordering or think you should check out:

I've seen so many put those lace tops over dresses and I dig it! Plus- sweaters for under $10?! Count me in!

I've been in need of some black flats and a black tank, so those are basic but also fancy! The floral pants are the same ones I have that I've been wearing a little too much, and the striped bodycon skirt is another staple everyone should have.

Also- Express is doing an extra 40% off their clearance! When you add in the shipping, it's not exactly within my "this is an amazing deal" category, but these tops are a steal if you can find them in store!

Some other places I've seen with solid deals:

  • Seems like everything is on sale in the Target stores
  • H&M has a TON on sale right now and it's all free shipping this weekend
  • Wet Seal is an extra 60% off clearance and a ton of things for $5
  • ASOS has an extra 10% off clearance
Let me know if you see any good sales so I can share them! I'm sorry for making you blow your money this weekend but like... it's not blowing it cuz it's worth it!
