photo diary: virginia beach santacon 2012

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and now I've decided that SantaCon is the best day of the most wonderful time of the year. [Yeah, even better than Christmas Day, I think.]

I knew this year would be way bigger than last in Virginia Beach since word had spread a lot more, and some friends + my bro came down for the festivities. Starting at noon we headed out to join a solid 300+ Santas at the Oceanfront.

[Before and after, of course.]

I found a sweet LIGHT-UP tutu on Amazon which is now my most favorite thing ever, a shiny jacket at Ross, red tights, and socks with the fur for under my boots. BAM. I'm my own Sparkly Santa.

If you've never been to a SantaCon, you should know that you should dress up beyond just a sweater or something. You should also know that there is such a variety of Santas, it really doesn't matter how you do it! [My bro, "Post-Delivery Santa," was fretting about his outfit before we left.]

From what I hear, when you do it one of the bigger cities, they tell you a general area to head to. Ours was big, but small enough where we could all go from bar to bar together!

Would you expect anything less than a handstand walk to the next bar from us?

The best part about it all is just the immediate best-friendship you have with all the Santas. "Scuse me Santa!" "Ohh, Santa! You look so good!" "Hey Santa, my chimney's open, wanna get in?"
Okay, maybe I didn't say that last part, but I should have.

We also had drink specials, snow machines, festive Jello shots, cookies, and really just a blasty blast... and you shouldn't be surprised that I don't have *specific* stories to share.

Finally, we were back to our "home" on top of a bar. [I swear my dance moves are slightly better than raising the roof.]

I'm proud to say we lasted until 9:30ish! That's longer than a workday of partying, and without any 5 Hour Energy's! If you don't think that's impressive, you clearly don't know about my narcolepsy.

There is supposed to be a video and more "professional" photos being posted within the next couple days, and I'll totally update this post as soon as I see them! Then you can be jealous that you weren't playing with us, and you'll mark your calendar for next year right now. I think we're gonna try to hit up multiple SantaCons in different cities!

In the meantime, I posted more of my pictures on my Facebook, and VBNightlife also has over 200.

Can I drink in a tutu every day?!

elizabethany

PS UPDATE: Thanks to Alan Boynton who got these awesome pictures and more!

[Meet "Power Ranger Santa"]

UPDATE #2: Check out the VIDEO, made by Blockheads Media.

As much as I think the video looks freaking amazing and I wanna learn how to do some of the shots/effects, I'm not sure it does the day justice. It's a CRAZY, SUPER FUN day... which I'm not sure is captured to its fullest in that video.

what ya wearin wednesday [and christmas!] 122612

It's the final WYWW of the year! OH EM GEE! [But we get to have a full 50+ of them in 2013! How exciting is that?!]

First up, some people sent me what they wore on Christmas Day! [Don't forget, I'll be doing the same for New Year's Eve! So send me pics of your outfits that night! Or the next day, if you'd rather include your full-on party look.]

@mdefunk's A-line dress is from Forever21! Love the red belt and jewelry to make it festive. That dress could be done so many ways!

@moirgirl looked so cute and elf-tastic while having to work! And I think a *raise the roof!* is in order.

@toribabyy14 is adorable with that jacket and new bow earrings to match the bow in her hair! Bonus: her pants were sparkly!

@michael_riehm got a Santa suit for Christmas, and obviously had to wear it all day!

And for me, I went full out festive colors.
[How great does that new camera look in my hands?! I'm so excited! Never mind the cluster that is my old room]
Simple outfit:
-White lace dress from Ross for under $15
-Red tights from Love Culture for $6
-Green scarf from the streets of NYC, I think.
-Bell and ribbon earrings from Dollar Tree
-Shoes: NONE. I was inside all day.

ALSO, I asked everyone to help me pick which Pinterest nails to try, and these were the winners/my version of them! I kinda love how it turned out! All you need is strips of tape over the white for the stripes! Then paint the red right over, wait for it to dry, and peel it off!
I also tried the whole "stick your nails in ice water to dry them quicker" trick, and it's a freaking keeper! I can't tell you how great/quick that was!

Before we get into the actual WEDNESDAY of this, I will admit I did not get dressed. Well, not really. It was snowing/raining all day, I was traveling and working, so a hoodie and rain boots got the job done. These people looked fab, though!

Okay, okay. I HAD to include my boo Trey Songz. As if I didn't think we needed to get in each other's pants already, he posts this picture. Mmmm.

@matty_may757 was also sporting his Redskins spirit with a brand new RG3 jersey!

@jannashepherd got a new sweater, scarf, and socks for Christmas, and obviously couldn't wait to wear them! Don't forget the new, awesome way to tie the scarves!

@tricciardelli was reppin some NYC love. I tried to tell him the West F#@*in Virginia shirts were better, but the silly man didn't believe me.

@Madi_1Derful got a brand new varsity jacket! I kinda love that they're coming back.

WHEW! That took too long to post, sorry for the delay! Now onward to the New Year!

My show will go on, my tweets will continue, #WhatYaWearinWednesday will still happen, but I'll also be doing a lot of #EBflashback to reminisce on 2012!

Follow me on Twitter and keep up with the hashtag! I'll be looking back at the biggest posts of the year in case you missed them or just wanna remember the good times. Normally I do one big post, but this year I'm going to annoy improve your timeline.

what ya wearin wednesday 121912

YOU GUYS! Less than a week 'til Christmas! And it's pretty obvious in today's outfits. Lots of red! I love red! Red's my favorite!

How awesome is @BrandoNichole's red and green?! I'm obsessed.

@mdefunk loves scarves, but so do I! What's boot season without scarf season?!

Look at the shoes @erindawn97 is rockin! Werk 'em!

@Lifeinalocket was inspired by Santa! Red pants, black boots! [Twins!]

@JaceBarrow had to brave the Texas weather... Silly, cute southerners.

Joy, my hairdresser, did a little color blocking and a zebra belt! I need blue pants.

Chessie's shirt as so adorable! Love the one shoulder and the sequins!

Meghan was excited to me my first preggo girl on WYWW! She looks so good!

I pressured @JannaShepherd into not skipping a week, so she took this cute selfie while out to dinner!

@MoganLowerss143 had to dress up as Susan B Anthony for school!

@RomulaLynn was making Snooki proud with zebra/bedazzled crutches!

Look how good and clean @RudeBrandon looks "on his work flow!"

@Siarrahhh had a vintage day with her old jean jacket and a tee from her uncle when he was growing up!

And @BrookeonHOT looked cute in a simple shirt, jeans, and boots.. with awesome snake-patterned scarf!

As for me, I was feeling the red spirit, too!

I originally wanted the mix of patterns with the scarf, but felt it was a bit much for a simple office setting, so brought the necklace along too. The jacket is actually more tan than it appears, and next time I will be going with different shoes.

-No idea where the scarf is from, but I doubt I paid more than $5 for it.
-Lace tank: $3 at Ross
-Tan blazer: $6 at F21 clearance
-Red jeans [the most awesome, comfortable, stretchy, ass enhancing pants ever] from Papaya $15
-Black ankle boots from JC Penney $20
-Red necklace- $.99 at Body Central; black/gold/silver necklace from Charlotte Russe $5
For EVERYTHING: $55

I also got my hair re-did yesterday, hence it looking all dark and my bangs actually looking like bangs! If you're in the Hampton Roads area, I've said it before and I'll say it 100 more times, call Joy at Hair Graphics. She's the bomb.

Next week will be the day after Christmas so I'm sure you'll all have fancy new outfits to show off! YAY!

I'm also thinking of doing special Christmas and New Year's Eve editions of "What Ya Wearin," so send me your outfits once you're all dressed!

watch: dj earworm's united state of pop 2012- shine brighter

Okay, I lied. There's one other year-end wrap up we all care about, and that's DJ Earworm's United State of Pop video!

People have been sharing the wrong video all week, but this is finally the right one! As always, it's fantastic [but could use less/zero Taylor Swift]...

Tons of people have been jackin' his style and doing this video mash-ups, but they don't even come close to comparing! The coolest part about Earworm's videos is that the lyrics mash-up to make a song that actually makes some sense. Everyone else just matches beats.

Also, the best part about his this year: It's not all OPPA GANGNAM STYLE, like every other mix you've heard in the past couple months.

Thank you, DJ Earworm, for proving you're the best again. TEAM EARWORM!

watch: the only 2012 year-in-review you need to see

I've always been so pumped to read the "best of the year" lists, but for some reason, I'm slightly over them this year.

That was until I saw this video. "What Brought Us All Together." In the beginning it's a little sad, I won't lie to you... but it gets happier, funnier, and straight up moving. Watch it all. You won't regret it.

It's basically all the biggest events, most watched YouTube videos, and talked about memes in one, skipping the celebrity nonsense. And it happens so quickly even someone with ADD can pay attention! Score!

I had goosebumps through the entire thing! And may or may not have nearly shed a tear. That was awesome, and I'm bookmarking that ish forever.

watch: a yearly video we all need to start making

I first saw this and thought "oh, well that's neat." Then I was all "OMG that's SO neat, and I need to do it every year to help me reminisce!"

It's one second of video for every day for a year... This dude did it for his 30th year.

Random, but totally cool, right?! Sure, I'll have to somehow remember to do it every day, and I'll have to make my life a little more interesting on other days, but if I can pull this off, even on a monthly basis, I will love myself and the creation.

Someone's already challenged me to really do it and have the most interesting life, so feel free to join in on the challenge and we'll compare after a while!

video games galore in the 1996 toys r us ad

I've shown you a Best Buy ad from 1996 before, but now it's time to take a look at what all the kids were asking Santa for from the Toys R Us ad.

First of all... why in the world were there THAT MANY gaming systems?! Am I crazy for thinking that's a lot?! And no wonder my parents were so eager to get my brother and I Gameboys... They were the cheapest option and we wouldn't fight over the games!

Another reason I love the 90s: It's the last time I could actually play video games and win at them. This whole double joystick thing is just too much.

gift guide: 90s inspired

Obviously I had to gather some ideas for fellow 90s lovers before it's too late! Although none of them are as good as Beer Pogz that apparently existed two years ago but NOT ANYMORE [I've been raging about it all night], but they're still pretty awesome.

Saved By the Bell board game? You betta believe it! Let's just talk about how awesome people with think you your friend is when it's pulled out. [$13]

Speaking of SBTB, if a board game isn't their style, how about the DVD set that comes with an old school lunchbox?! [$38]

Remember how awesome those phones were?! You could see all the insides! Now you can get a plug-in version for your phone! [A little expensive at $48]

I seriously want one of these slap-watches. You can get interchangeable faces and bands and match every outfit! [Get a bunch, one for each friend, for $15 total!]

This is something for your best friend or lover. It's gonna make a little dent in your wallet, but who wouldn't wanna play Super Nintendo games with a handheld device?! No one. [$89]

You KNOW you loved listening to Casey Kasem countdown the hits, and show up randomly in different shows. Now get the biggest hits from his show on one CD! [$15]

Told you about these before, now you need to get them for someone. Collections of Lisa Frank stickers and stuff! They're the actual stickers we grew up with! [$14]

And in honor of the return of Boy Meets World, for only the true fans, a Chubbies t-shirt. [$25]

This is mostly a tease and it's rude. I thought it was a way to play N64 on your phone but WRONG. It's just a charging dock. [Not worth it for $40]

Pretty good variety of stuff there, if I do say so myself! Now... get all of it for me? And a personalized, homemade version of Beer Pogz?! Okay yay thank you, Santas!
