photo diary: 80s vs 90s party

Last weekend, the station hosted an 80s vs 90s party with Biz Markie and some cover bands from each decade... AKA my heaven.

I gathered my single girls and we vowed to turn our phones off for the night so we could really have a good time. We had the BEST time, but not a whole lot of pictures to show for it besides what the station took.

Yes, that's my friend wearing a Purple Parrots shirt from Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Floral bodycons, swing-back shoes, scrunchies, and of course I had enough fanny packs for everyone's outfits.

The bucket hats and overalls! That NSYNC tee!

Those overall outfits, though... perfect.

And of course, a Michael Jackson.

The 80s band looked incredible. If we had a better camera, I coulda shown you.... instead you'll just have to believe me and regret not coming to rage.

Biz Markie was definitely... interesting. Props to him for making money doing what he's doing.... because he's not doing much.

And once we got home, we all sent some Snapchats... for some terrible reason, this is what I decided to send out. I'm embarrassing.

I wish these parties happened every single weekend. Great music, fun to dress up, fun to people watch.... someone help a girl out and let's get more of them!

watch: would you rather with ajr

AJR [they have the "I'm Ready" song with a Spongebob drop] was in the studio a couple months ago and we did the usual Truth or Dare, with one of the truths being a really difficult would you rather question.

They made a video of what it's like to be them, and included me/the game in there! [Skip to about 1:40 to see them at the station.]

Being included in a highlight like that is so exciting! I feel like a real life radio peep or something.

Honestly, I think the most fascinating conversation I had with them was a couple weeks later at a NOW 105 event in Virginia Beach. The youngest one is still going to high school, but at a specialty school where special people go. [Kids of famous people, singers and actors on the rise like him, olympians, and apparently even a professional racer.] He said just like every school- there are cliques and people more popular than others... it's just crazy that those schools really do exist.

Thanks to them for poppin' the question in there and playing along!

photo diary: wrapping up wedding season in chicago

Continuing on with my year of traveling and weddings, last weekend I headed to Chi-town for my college "roommate's" vows! [I say it in quotes because it was 7 of them who lived together and I lived in "the guest house," AKA a house down the street because roommates and I are never a good idea.]

It was the most extravagant wedding I've been to. Lots of people, beautiful decor, surprise performances from singers and bagpipe groups and probably more that I'm totally forgetting.

Not gonna lie, I kinda sucked at getting pictures this time because I was running on 90 minutes of sleep, but here's the beautiful couple:

And the setting of the resort:

And the dinner/reception setting:

New mailbox for cards!

She's giving the table numbers to her BFF for her wedding this winter- recycling for the win!

And my outfit:

-dress from Forever21! I looked at so many stores and finally sighed before one last try by going in there. I love this beaut.
-shoes from Ross
-BlueLans necklace

And I did my hair with a little twist, a little braid, and a messy bun. I liked it from the front, but seeing pictures from the back now makes me cringe a little. My make-up was a medium-dark smokey eye with teal worked in the corners/under eye.

I'm quickly learning that my favorite parts of weddings are the "extra celebrations." Like the weekend long excursion in Texas, or this Cubs game that 70 of us went to in a party bus the next morning. Not only does it give us out of towners more time with the couple, but I got to explore the city more, too!

Wrigley field- with bleachers on top of the apartment buildings outside of the stadium!

My only picture with the bride. I'm terrible. But how great does she look for the morning after her wedding?! Props.

With the wedding on Friday and everyone peacing out Sunday, I decided to stay an extra day and explore alone [mostly because I wasn't supposed to be alone, but life happens] and meet up with some radio friends I've never met in real life.

Radio is cool like that. In every city that I go, I can holler at people I've talked to online a few times and crash on their couch or at least meet up for a while. For Chicago, I met two friends who are close to my DC radio fam, and then two that I have a "let's copy each other brainstorm together" relationship with.

Check out the view of one of their homes:

CAN YOU IMAGINE ACTUALLY WAKING UP TO THIS EVERY DAY?! Stop it.

Had to get the Bean picture, obviously. We're making fun of him on his phone, like a true radio peep.

True life: I have a weakness for sunrises and sunsets. Accidentally catching this while walking around was fantastic.

For being taken on my phone, these pictures are pretty legit, right?! I guess it's not hard with a pretty city.

Now I don't have any more trips planned for the rest of the year! I want to go on at least one more, but I have no idea where that will be. An easy ride to NYC? A visit to Salt Lake for my station event out there? I'll figure something out, duh. Suggestions always welcome!

Another congrats to the new Conroys! Thanks for having me out to the beautiful start to your new life!

watch etv: playing "heads up" with jesse mccartney

We had Jesse McCartney into our studio TWICE within a couple months. I feel like I've died and gone to my high school heaven.

Since I already dared him to recreate an old picture with me, I let him off easy this time and we just did a game of Heads Up. I like being able to get two fans involved, and that it automatically gives me two angles of the video, duh.

Next time I'm gonna make us all act out animals or something. There's WAAAYYYY too many words up in there, amiright?! I wanna see Jesse McCartney act out an inchworm.

But... still drooling, so...

wearing: a warm fall

It seems like as soon as Labor Day comes, everyone switches to Fall colors, no more summer dresses or bright colors... but not me. The only difference is that I shave less, so pants and maxi dresses are more prevalent for that reason only.

I decided to go all bright and more Springy the other day and I regret nothing.

-pants from H&M
-zipper back top from TJ Maxx
-shoes from Charlotte Russe
-necklace from BlueLans

I love those pink pants, but they get so baggy in the knees very quickly. I'm going to assume that's because they're cheap, huh? That's what I get for paying $5 for pants.

Simple, fun colors, and a necklace to bring in a little blue. Easy.

PS Today is officially my 6 year anniversary of this blog! I'm proud and had to share. Thank you so much for visiting this here website and keeping me going with it. It's the longest commitment I've had beyond college, and that wasn't totally my choice.

what i've been wearing 091114

I'm long overdue for a "catch-up" of outfits I've worn and taken selfies in without posting. Sometimes [most times] a girl is in a rush out the door and doesn't have time to perfect the blog pictures!

First: The country concert outfit. I'm in love with this tank because it's cute alone or will look cute under things [like the flannel] once it gets colder. After going to LA, I learned having a flannel for cooler nights is a must, so I went with it.

-tank and shorts from Charlotte Russe
-flannel from Target
-genuine boots from my Texas friends
-red solo cup because, duh.

The dress and vest. When you have a tube top dress that is also a little short, you make it work with a vest. I pull the dress down in the back and vest covers it! Voila!

-Forever21 dress
-LC Lauren Conrad vest
-Charlotte Russe sandals

The I'm going out to own this town ensemble. I have all these crop tops and bodycon skirts that I rarely wear because I spend most of my out nights at casual bars. I finally got to dress up and it was fun to mix up the mint and fushia. Not going to lie, I felt pretty hott with the mesh and everything.

-crop top from H&M
-skirt from F21
-shoes from Charlotte Russe
-clutch from Target

The That's so 90s get-up. I was meeting The Madden Brothers and for whatever reason felt like going full on 90s. DARE shirt, flannel, Keds and all.

-old tank from F21
-flannel and shoes from Target
-shorts from the "mom section" of Kohls. Obviously for MILFs. Look how short they are!

And that's all for now. Time to go deal with a rough day.

video interview: justice crew teaches me some "dance" moves

Justice Crew: A bunch of dancers from Australia's Got Talent who turned into a full on guy singing group, with a fantastic song called "Que Sera" that has lyrics worthy of Pinterest shares.

Their song broke records on the ARIA charts, which is basically like the hipster version of the Billboard charts. [Over in Australia.. same thing as Billboard, but their number 1s don't make it to America til WAYYY later.]

We talked about this crazy awesome Australian sunset, hearing their song on the radio, and then they taught me how to do their crazy "swing move." Spoiler alert: This is my face afterwards.

Never say no to anything, right?! Oof.

They were cool guys, and I could listen to their accents forever... plus- dancers AND singers?! Sweet baby Jesus could these be better catches for future husbands?!

recipe: chicken parmesan baked quinoa

The last time I made quinoa, it tasted delicious, but I totally burnt a bunch of it and my pan. This time, I actually go it right! Two times to perfection, hell yes!

I made an easy version of this Baked Chicken Parmesan Quinoa. [AKA why make your own sauce when you can buy a delicious jar of it for $2?]

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 1 cup of quinoa
  • 2 cups of chicken broth
  • 1 lb of boneless chicken breast
  • 1 jar of your choice of pasta sauce
  • 2/3 cup of mozzarella cheese
  • 3 tbs bread crumbs
  • 2 tbs parsley
  • 2 tbs Parmesan cheese
  • 1-2 tbs minced garlic
  • 1 tbs cooking oil
WHAT YOU DO:
  1. In a large skillet, use the oil of your choice to cook the diced up chicken. [I added some italian seasonings just to bake extra flavor into the chicken]
  2. Place the quinoa and broth into a pot and bring to a boil. Then reduce the heat and cover, and cook until all the broth is absorbed. [Time has varied for me. I think it was about 15 minutes this time, but keep stirring/checking on it so it doesn't burn.]
  3. In a large bowl, combine the quinoa and chicken, and add sauce to your liking. I used about 3/4 of the jar.
  4. Spray or wipe a baking dish with oil and put half the mixture in, then half the mozzarella cheese. Repeat with the other half of each.
  5. Add bread crumbs and parsley on top, cover with foil, and bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Uncover and cook for an additional 5-10, or until cheese is starting to brown.

Mine didn't come out nearly as pretty, but it was definitely delicious.

It's really just another "healthier" way to make your traditional chicken parmesan! I'm into it. It'll definitely be made again.

video: playing "heads up" with mkto

MKTO has now hung out with me/my stations three times, and I had to switch things up again. I had some dares I really wanted to do, but since we already did the stilts thing, I figured we'd play a little of Ellen's "Heads Up" app.

I downloaded the 90s deck because of their "Classic" references, and figured I'd rock it.... I was wrong.

*sigh* I'm so embarrassed by how terrible I was! And that I got too excited to remember to save Tony's video on my phone because his "Thighmasters" face was unbelievable.

Also.. I've always thought they were talented, but seriously- how great is Tony's voice?! I wish we had the entire performance posted to show you, but hopefully soon. Props to them for making sure every one of their fans in our studio had tickets to the show, too.

[Outfit details: yellow tee from Target, white lace skirt from Forever 21, leopard bracelet/watch from Charlotte Russe]
