photo diary: jingle ball 2013

Is it really over?! I've been looking forward to this year's Jingle Ball before I even knew I'd be working for the station...

It was easily the biggest event I've ever been a part of. Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus, Flo Rida, Enrique Iglesias, Jason Derulo, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Austin Mahone, and Fifth Harmony were in the building to perform, along with over 10,000 people to watch and some big wigs of the company.

For the first two hours, I was handing out free tickets to just about anyone who came by a tent outside the venue. I tweeted about it, but people thought I was kidding. Sucks to be you if you didn't come get some freebies.

Then we rushed into the broadcast room where we were doing our shows live from backstage and interviewing all the artists! Unfortunately, I missed out in some of them because of timing issues, but I did get to talk to Austin Mahone! As far as I can tell with his body language and reactions... he's definitely dating someone on the tour... or at least has one of those "when I get the balls, I'm gonna ask her out" crushes.

[hopefully we'll get the full interview up soon!]

I decided selfies were the way to go for the night...

....until I ran into Enrique and this happened... but didn't have a chance to retake it.

Everything was super planned out which was a very new experience to me. I'm used to a bit of a messy situation/schedule backstage full of boozy people... so next I rushed to the stage to get ready to announce Flo Rida with Kane. He asked me if I had looked out at the stadium yet.... and when I did..

...I freaked! In a good way, luckily. I wasn't nervous, just amazed. HOW IS THIS MY LIFE?!

This was my view of the show, which looked pretty freaky when Fall Out Boy's fire was all crazy.

Full circle moment... from Kane Show intern, to officially introduced by him as the new night jock. Woah.

We decided to capture the moment with this... thanks Kane!

Robin Thicke happened to be walking by and I was all "Hey, Robin..." and he responds with something along the lines of "of course we can take a picture with you and that dress!"
So obviously we took a prom picture, right after I teased him about getting his swoon on without me having to ask for it at all.

I was also really pumped to finally get to hang with the girls of The Kane Show! We got to introduce Enrique together, so we obviously shared stories of sexy boys ahead of time.

This was honestly one of my favorite moments. I was walking down the hall, following Miley, and she runs into Jordin Sparks and Jason and they talk about how they're hunting down different people who are performing but don't know how to find them yadda yadda. It's just neat to see them all be friends outside of cameras etc.

I didn't get to see much of the show because of everything going on in the back... but based on the pictures, stories of Flo making it rain with real dollars, Enrique going into the crowd, fans twerking on stage.... It sounds like it was pretty incredible. I also got to hear all about it when I was back in the studio for the end of the show, when everyone called in to share how exciting it was.

As for what I wore, I got my dress from Kohl's! It's by JLo, it's got some sparkles, but was totally "winter," covered some massive bruises I got over the weekend, and paired perfectly with my new red shoes from Marshall's and red lips.

So I guess I have to wait 360-some days for the next one to happen which is just torture... but luckily I like my job every day.

If you were there, lemme know what you loved!

this guy is amazing on the acoustics

I was just surfing around for American Idol stuff last night and found this guy, and I'm really glad I did.

I don't know much about him besides the fact that he's from Boyce Avenue and his name is Alejandro Manzano and he sings a bunch of popular songs with the acoustic guitar. And oh yeah, they're amazing.

This one is my favorite so far... He mixed Alicia Keys, Jordin Sparks and Black Eyed Peas/Justin Timberlake into one song, that sounds GREAT! How he came up with it, I'll never know, but it's remarkable [Woah! New word for me!] and you need to watch/listen.

I have officially started to follow them on Twitter so hopefully I'll get plenty more things to share with you! Also, Ellen needs to have this guy on her show PRONTO.

tunes on tuesday 051209

Hello! Happy Tunes on Tuesday, my darlings! Lots of stuff for today!

Jordin Sparks--> Battlefield

Is this going to be the replacement for last summer's "No Air"? If it is, I will hate it in another month. For now, it's not terrible. It grows on ya.

Jennifer Lopez--> What is Love

J Lo is back!? Well, Jennifer Lopez, I guess. It doesn't live up to her old stuff by any means, but it's not a "Oh no this can't be her comeback single" either. It could definitely get some plays.

Rihanna ft. Lady GaGa--> Silly Boy

Oh boy... These two combining could definitely take over the radio in a heartbeat. This song is too T Pain microphone for me, though. [And yes, that's how I will always refer to that sound.] Why'd they have to use it the WHOLE time?! The lyrics are fun, and I'm sure it'll do well, but I have that pet peeve.

Taylor Swift--> You Belong With Me

Ugh... Could I be falling into the Taylor Swift trap?! I CAN'T! NO! HOLD BACK, BETH!! This is a cute video, cute song... But it's typical. So typical. And will be played on every radio station and probably be on the next Now CD.

Justin Beiber--> One Time

This kid is FIFTEEN!!!! So basically.. The next Jesse McCartney? He's even got the long, shaggy, dirty blonde hair. And oh yeah, he hangs out with Usher on the reg apparently. He's pretty freakin' good!

Colby O'Donis--> I Wanna Touch You

As much as I didn't like this guy in real life, I'm not going to hate on this song. The lyrics are a lil lame at parts, but overall, I can dig it.

Paul Wall ft. Webbie and Mouse--> Bizzy Body

Here's another song that's stupid, but is going to be all over the clubs, and people are going to LOVE IT when it's played. One question: What kinda names are Webbie and Mouse?!

David Rush ft. Pitbull and Kevin Rudolf--> Shooting Star [Party Rock Remix]

This song immediately got me bumpin, not even gonna lie. Am I conforming to something, or just in the mood to dance? Downloaded!

Evan Taubenfield--> Boy Meets Girl

This guy is the former lead guitarist for Avril Lavigne and I'm bothered by this song. He sounds like he's 12, the song sounds like it was written by someone 12, and... No. It's just awkward. I didn't listen to much of it, and I made up my mind before giving it much of a chance, but I'll let you decide for yourself.

Alright, that's all for today! [Plus Dawn's song about Danity Kane from yesterday! Check it out!] Sorry country fans! I'll find some later!

celebrity lookalikes

E! Online just posted an article about celebrities that look alike, and honestly, they're all either funny, or people who I think are the same person sometimes. So I will share with you.

I agree! Nicole got the best of the genes or whatever, though.

Not a good thing, Madge, but true.

No really... Which one is which?! These are 2 different people. Zooey and Girl Kisser.

THIS is funny. But I see it.

Sisters maybe?

Yeah, I don't know which one's Keira and which one is Natalie. I never do.

Megan is obviously the better of the two, but I see the resemblance.

I actually notice a lot of resemblances with my friends and celebrities. I've done a post on it before on my HOT 99.5 blog [which is now deleted. :( RIP], and interns of the Kane Show always look exactly like celebs. [me= Jamie Lynn Spears?? They also had Heather Mills, Michael Vick, and I think one of the current ones looks a little like Cheryl Burke... But anyways...]

Today I had another revelation. Friend, classmate, fellow Britney fan, and blogger John Thrasher IS Adam Lambert from American Idol.

Who do you have that looks like someone? Post it! Names if I know them, links to pictures, however you want to do it! I want to see!

people's choice?

So, the People's Choice Awards were the other night.. And, well, I have some things to say about it, of course.

First and foremost.. The nominees for a majority of the awards were terrible. I don't think they represented the year at all. A few examples:
-Favorite Comedy-- 27 Dresses, Get Smart, and Mama Mia!... Where's Step Brothers? Or Forgetting Sarah Marshall?
-Fave Female Movie Star-- Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, and Keira Knightly.... I mean, they're great people and all, but aren't there better people for 2008? Like, lots of them?
-Fave Funny Male star-- Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, and Steve Carell.... Again, all funny people, but besides Steve, we've had a LOT of Adam and Jim. Now a lot of people are into the Jonah Hills, any Superbad character time, or Will Ferrell at least..

I just feel like it wasn't much of a "people's choice" if all of the choices weren't really there. HOWEVER, I AM happy with Ellen winning Talk Show Host, Chris Brown winning Male Singer, Rascal Flatts winning Group, Will Smith as Male Action Star [because at least he is still making TONS of GREAT movies], and Tina Fey as Funny Female. And, of course, the 32987 awards that The Dark Knight got. Those, were most certainly well deserved.

Anyways, on to the show.

Queen Latifah hosted, and let's just say, she's a WHOLE LOTTA WOMAN! She's pretty, and definitely comfortable in her own skin, and man can she work it!

Her opening was pretty funny, I thought. She did the whole "Yes we can is the answer tonight." And then went on to ask Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Kid Rock, and Hugh Laurie if it was going to be a good time. All answers were pretty funny, I must admit.. Even though they all were "Yes We Can."

There were only two performers, which was a little disappointing. I was really happy with the past couple of awards shows and how they had a LOT of performers. But, at least these two were both people I LOVE.. Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts.

Carrie was awarded favorite person under 35, and performed "I Know You Won't," a powerful ballad from her latest album, Carnival Ride. I've decided it's impossible for her to look anything less than perfect. She always looks amazing, no matter what. She also always sounds amazing, no matter what song she is singing. Even though the song was pretty slow and no one knew it, she was able to pull it off.

The Rascal Flatts sang "What Hurts the Most" and "Life is a Highway." They sound a bit different live than they do on their singles, but it's okay.. It works. They sound raw and alive and amazing! :) It was cool to have them sing multiple songs, both of which were very popular in a variety of music cultures. So, Bravo, boys!

What was funny during their performance, though, was Jordin Sparks. She was LOVIN' it! They showed her just standing up out of her seat, by herself, dancing and singing to their performance. It was a little weird, and funny, but cool at the same time. I just want to know if she was officially in her own world, or if she's not afraid to get up and have a good time. [Really, she was geeking out the WHOLE show.]

Speaking of having a good time, Miss Kate Hudson... Hmmm.. For those of you who watched.. Did anyone else think she was completely hammered when she received her award?! First she starts hootin' and hollerin'.. Then she was rambling on and on and "I feel a song coming on" and then went on to talk about her son who was born on that day and she didn't know where he was but hopefully he was in bed. Umm, that's weird. Shouldn't you know what he's doing?! Maybe? There were other awkward comments too, but I forgot them by now.

Yeah. She's hammered. It's official.

All in all, I can't say I LOVED the show, but I didn't hate it, either. I was certainly entertained, and some of my people won [YAY ELLEN AND RASCAL!] so I'm happy.

Let me know what you thought, though! Right after you take a look at these pictures:

really great show

I never thought I'd ever say this, but I probably would have paid a LOT of money for the Jonas Brothers' concert in Nashville on Sunday.. And actually, I'm mad I didn't know about it in order to make it possible to go.

But I'm not crazy.. Nor am I turning into the teeny bopper that I.. used.. to be.

Their concert had all kinds of A-LIST singers OPENING for them. Or singing with them, or whatever.

For instance, Tim McGraw AND Faith Hill opened up and introduced the brother-trio. And Martina McBride performed "Independence Day."

That's not even close to being it for the list of guest performers.

Amy Grant sang her hit from the 90s, "Baby Baby," and Michael W. Smith sang "Place in this World."

Then, duets/collaborations happened. Joe Jonas joined Jordin Sparks for "No Air" and Kevin helped out Brad Paisley with "Waitin on a Woman." Check out the videos if you wish.. But I must warn you.. There's a lot of screaming every once in a while.

[I don't think they're the BEST duets I have ever seen, but they're not terrible, I guess. If you can hear past all of the screaming..]

And, Phil Vassar, Steven Curtis, and Vince Gill also joined the JoBros to sing the classic "The Weight."

Finally, to wrap it all up, EVERYONE came together to sing the HUGE classic "American Pie."

Wow. Seriously, I wonder if this was something all of the fans knew about, or a bunch of surprises. Either way, it's pretty cool, JoBros or not. And I'm really, really jealous of people who were there.

If you don't like country, you might not understand or agree with me.. But this is really cool, and that's all I have to say for now.
