why i'm loving buying things from china

To be honest, I'm a little nervous to share this secret with you because I don't want my options to go down or out of stock! BUT, I've pretty much made a vow to share my life with you and help you out, so that's what I shall do.

For the past couple months, you may have seen bluelans.com in my What Ya Wearin Wednesday or fashion posts. It's a website that ships straight from China, FOR FREE! Sure, that's cool, but what you also need to know is that everything is super cheap!

I ordered two shipments of jewelry and other things from BlueLans and DressLink, totaling at $31, including any shipping costs! Everything you see here [and two more pairs of earrings] are included in that total!

The two scarves are from DressLink, the clutch from BlueLans. I'm obsessed with the yellow scarf. The clutch might get a little makeover. [but the inside has so many card pockets- LOVE!]

Studs from BlueLans. I got two of the Amurrica ones for a friend. The black bows will become a fave!

All of these are from DressLink. The bracelet on the far left actually fits my wrist which I'm shocked about because I have XL wrists. That necklace is going to be so fun to work with! It's pretty exquisite/fancier than I normally get, but with a plain shirt I think it'll be gorgeous!

You've seen the owl necklace before, and I got the anchor necklace to match earrings I got from BlueLans a couple months back. Those purple earrings are pretty big, but I'm pumped about them. I also got them in black [not pictured].

How great and different are all of those things?! The most expensive item was the big gold necklace, for $3!

Because I'm always honest with you, I will tell you the cons:

  • You're ordering from China. Things are going to be made very cheap. If you know how to fix little things like loose chains/reconnect them, you're good to go.
  • Shipping takes a while, up to 45 days. If you're getting these things for a vacation, plan accordingly.
  • If you're ordering clothes- beware. I got lingerie for $5 and a shirt for $10 in another order. The shirt lasted for a day before it shrank to half it's size in the wash [without a dry]. The lingerie actually isn't terrible, it's just super simple and required a minor sewing fix at the seam when I pulled it out of the packaging. I'm interested in trying a dress or a jacket, but we'll see...
  • Some of the metal smells a little weird. I don't know how to explain it besides it's cheap metal. I had to get used to wearing the owl necklace.
Those are really the only complaints I have, and they're minor considering what I'm paying for a whole jewelry makeover.

If you have or will be ordering anything from the sites, let me know and keep me updated! I'm excited to discover more! Also, if you know of any similar sites, please share with all of us in the comments!

Happy shopping!

wearing: my los angeles style

Great news! I survived my first trip to LA without getting arrested for stalking a celebrity!

I'll have a whole post of all the fun things I did coming up, but first I thought I'd do a round-up of some of my outfits.

I swore it'd be easy to have all these awesome outfit pics around the city, but I did most of my traveling alone, and when I wasn't, I was too busy having fun to pause for a photoshoot. These will have to do, my dears.

Before we get started, I'd like to point out that each outfit is under $50 total and I'm hella proud of that.

For traveling TO the city:

If you're ever traveling- WEAR A MAXI. It's the most comfortable thing ever and you'll feel like you're naked under a blanket while trying to sleep on a plane.
-Dress from TJ Maxx
-sandals from Papaya
-all brown jewelry from BlueLans
-entire outfit cost under $35.

Day of meetings and exploring:

I wanted to look fun but not show too much for my meeting, and this tank is one of my new go-to's!
-tank from TJ Maxx
-pants from H&M [for $5!!]
-sandals from Charlotte Russe
-earrings from BlueLans
-sunglasses from the streets of LA

For a night out at the clurb:

I was a bit shocked by how cold it gets in LA as soon as the sun goes down! My legs are meaty enough to handle it, but my arms freeze, so this worked! It's 100% see-through lace in the back, and I thought the wedges were fun to roughen up the lace/gold earrings. [Even though I still have a love/hate relationship with these shoes]
-top and shorts from Forever21

For Disneyland:

Disney [or any theme park] calls for something comfortable, but fun. I decided to try a little monochromatic look with some blingage.
-gold studs and necklace from BlueLans
-top from Ross
-shorts [that are a light coral/pink color] from H&M
-sandals from Charlotte Russe

I stressed for a long time trying to come up with really stylish outfits to bring, but I didn't even wear most of this. It's true that anything goes in Los Angeles, but the biggest lesson I learned/did not prepare for was to always have a jacket ready to go once 8:00 hits. Now it makes sense why the celebs are always wearing long sleeves or pants even though the weather is always nice there.

Also... no matter what you wear, you'll probably look better than any celebs you stumble upon... but more on that later.

what i've been wearing 030415

It's time for a little truth bomb.

A lot of the reason I've been slacking on posting outfits is because of gaining a little more than the typical "winter weight." This is pretty typical for me after a break-up. Chocolate just seems so much more satisfying than a piece of broccoli. I'm not looking for "oh shut up, you look fine" or anything like that. That makes things awkward. I'm stating facts. I know what I've gained and I'm working on getting back down cuz like... bikini weather.

Anyway, enough excuses. Luckily I can work some angles when I take selfies.

I got these new boots from UrbanOG and this was the easiest outfit to throw together. Whenever I get new shoes, I suck at doing anything besides matchy-matchy.
-shirt was thrifted
-Express jeans from TJ Maxx
-scarf from Groupon Goods

I got this polka dot shirt and knew it'd be great for layering, but it's also chiffon, so it'll be good alone too! I was also really excited about my hair. Somehow after I put the bobby pins in the same way I always do, it loosened up and looked like there  to hold in the soft braid.
-top from Target
-Express jeans
-jacket from random NYC boutique
-scarf from Love Culture
-H&M earrings
-shoes from SEARS! [I say that all caps because I'm shocked that I found one of my favorite shoes for this season there. They're so comfy, cute, and make my feet look small which is key for a bish with size 10.]

A random Friday night outfit mixin' and matchin' the black and white!
-blazer and lace tank from TJ Maxx
-Express jeans
-Forever21 booties
-BlueLans earrings

And my truly "I don't give an eff" outfit... this was my first time wearing leggings as pants in public. Really.
-top and leggings from Charlotte Russe
-boots from JustFab
-spikey earrings from BlueLans

There's a mini catch up. Now I'm going to get my ass in the gym because you can't complain about such things if you're not doing anything about it.

PS it's a milestone day! My blog has hit 3 million views! I don't know if that seems like a lot to you or not, but I'm pretty pumped. Thanks for continuing to support, even in my not-so-active times!

what i wore last week 080513

Time for me to pretend like you care about how I look every day, even if it's kinda plain and not that exciting.

Here's what I covered my bod with last week.

MONDAY:

-shirt from Love Culture $10
-ripped jeans from Charlotte Russe $15
-necklace was a gift
-wedges from Ross $13

WEDNESDAY:
See more of the details on the WYWW post!

THURSDAY
-scarf from BlueLans.com $2
-pink beater from F21
-jeans from Kohl's $20
-sandals from GoJane.com $8

My hair: I did a topsy-tail, then braided the pony, and wrapped it through/around twice. It was loose, comfortable, and subtle... but I felt fancy'd up a little bit. [This was the beginning inspiration.]

FRIDAY:
-striped tank from F21 $5
-anchor necklace and earrings from BlueLans.com for $3 total
-shorts from Kohl's
-sandals from GoJane.com $5

SUNDAY
-shirt from Papaya $8
-shorts from Kohl's [good week for that store, eh?!]
-sandals from Ross $13
-hat from F21 $12
-bracelets from Charlotte Russe $2

It was a really plain week, I guess. Even though it was all simple, I felt like I was getting dressed a lot more than the average night in the studio when no one is going to see me.

Let me know if there are any outfits you really liked [or even if you hated one]!

what ya wearin 4th of july 2014

I am more than excited to bring back "What Ya Wearin" for holidays! So I hope you always remember to send me your pictures on special occasions... and what better fashion holiday than the 4th of July?!?!

Let's get our 'Merica on.

@kmartin9 had the perfect "time to get star spangled hammered" tank and bandana on, and I'm also loving all of her friends' outfits!

A red bandana is all you need sometimes, as @ameliasullivan shows.

How awesome is @justjem24's entire ensemble?! The shirt, the headband, YES GIRL.

Have you ever seen more epically-American shirts than these on @shayna1532, @kmay703 and friends.

@laceyy_peterson even got her pups involved!

I am loving the fringe and skirt combo on @angie__i, and all of her friends!

She's got the American tank, but I mostly love @rodecvt's make-up!

I don't think I could be any more obsessed with @layne_xox's skirt than I am.

More crop tops and appropriate colored dresses with @_lalalyndsey

Doesn't get more AMURICAN than @thedjty's outfit

@Bradlisan was the only one to send nails this year! But they're goooddd.

Loving all the DIYness of @britterz09's outfit!

@kbabayyy and her man went all BSpears and JT on us with the matching outfits, and I'm so not mad at it.

DAY. DRUNK. FOR. AMERICA. YES, @ksnedegar.

And her sis @amsnedegar did a red scarf right, with a dress and a blue tank/white shorts!

I think this is the best submission for a WYW post I've ever gotten and ever will. PROPS, @meganspiveyy

@merrmerrbear deserves some props too for these DIY shoes!

Loving @canadiancutieee06's hair... and dog.

And @its_foreign_yoshi put on his fancy pants for the special occasion!

As for me, I spent most of the day in the studio, but I did get to go to a BBQ for a couple hours beforehand. Decided to bust out my handydandy American flag scarf as a shirt, and the skater skirt that you've probably seen me wear at least a dozen times.

-scarf from Jane.com
-skirt from ASOS
-sandals from GoJane
-earrings from BlueLans and Charlotte Russe
-bracelets from BlueLans
-must have fanny pack from an event

I should have taken a picture from the back, but all I did was tie the scarf in a knot and tuck the ends into my bra around the side. I think I'll be doing this a lot more with my scarves.

BONUS, in case you missed this from my Instagram... my USA outfit from earlier in the week.

-same scarf as above
-tank from F21

Thanks for another fun WYW day, and sorry for the delay in getting it posted! Turns out I need emergency mouth surgery for "bone deconstruction" this week. Yay.

elizabethany
