I wasn't lying when I said one of my favorite people ever was going to be on Idol. They may not have shown his auditions on TV, but he's featured in so many of the videos they've posted online... and we should be seeing him in Hollywood this week!

How EXCITING is that?! Gah. Brings back memories of Tim Halperin on the show, but this time it's so, SO much more personal.

interview with the backstreet boys, and more from their show!

Okay, maybe saying I got to interview them is reaching a bit... but I did get to ask them a question on camera....

I've been working every contact I know for the past two months trying to get them on the show or a chance to sit down with one of them backstage, and while neither of those things happened, I'm pumped that I was able to go to their soundcheck party before the show.

Normally people pay anywhere from $100-$600 for a chance to do this, on top of ticket price... it's kinda insane. We got to watch them perform a couple acoustic songs, answer a couple questions from the audience, and then depending on the level of pass you had, you mighta been able to take a group or solo picture with them. [I was given silver, so I got to take a group picture that I'm hoping they'll put on their website soon!]

The Boys were all really cool. Even if they had their pro-faces/best behavior goin' on, they were exactly as they've always seemed. Brian was so goofy he was borderline-clown. Nick was definitely the little brother of them all. Kevin was the grown-up, trying to be cool sometimes guy. AJ was just a normal person who likes to have a good time. Howie was the one I couldn't figure out as much. If there's any of them that I wasn't in love with, it was him. He seemed a little too cool with some comments.

Anyway, you might not care about what I thought about them or any of these words, so here's the video of the interview portion. Unfortunately I was just using my phone, and trying to be discreet, so it's not the highest of quality, but that's not what matters...

I asked them what their biggest fashion regrets of the 90s were. I didn't catch the part where Nick talks about his out of control hair and overalls, but he said he lost a lot of fans that day. [We would never hate on such a look!] Another girl asked them what their stripper names and moves would be if they were in Magic Mike. Golden.

I don't have any good videos of the performance, but there's a thing called YouTube where you can see other videos of it. Real neat.

As you'd expect, the show itself was awesome. Because I've seen BSB in concert in the past couple years, I was mostly excited for Jesse McCartney's return. What I didn't know: Brian's 10 year old son Baylee was the opener.. and he was so freakin' good/cute. [Video from Toronto]

They probably have the best father/son relationship... gah. Watching Brian dance and get all excited on the side was just awesome.

As for Jesse McCartney, he's still got it.. and after hearing some of his new stuff, I'm really hoping for a comeback! He's totally transitioned into the adult, Robin Thicke meets cooler Justin Bieber vibe.

Like... I just can't believe this happened. I met the Backstreet Boys. If you would have told me this would happen fifteen years ago I would have freaked out so hard my brain would be misaligned or something. Wow.

If you're in a city where you can still catch the show, do it! You'll love it. Every second of it [even Pauly D] was so fun. And if you can, buy the $75 tickets for the after party. You'll get to hang with the Boys and dance and it sounds like it's super worth it.

listen: backstreet boys' new song "in a world like this"

OMG OMG OMG Backstreet Boys have a new song from their album that's out July 30! Let's listen!!


*sigh* I hate to say this, but I kinda wish all these boy bands would stop making new music, and just tour with their old stuff. This song isn't bad, but it's really basic. There's no way radio will jump on it.

Boys, Kids, Degrees- Don't tarnish your reputation of having awesome jam songs that girls sing their heart out to by coming out with stuff that's not going to blow anyone away.
Maybe even bigger than that- you're supposed to show these new boy bands how it's done.... so far, you're not doing that with new music.

What do you think? New music is better than nothing, or leave it in the 90s and 00s?

watch: "remember 1999" makes me think it was the best year ever

I always thought 1996 was my most favorite year. One reason: The Magnificent 7.

After watching this here video of everything 1999 included, I'm wondering if I was lying to myself my whole life.

• Pop princesses really took off
• "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" debuted
• Big Daddy and Toy Story came out
• Napster made getting music so much easier
• Robin Williams was still effing great
• Macy Gray, Creed, Lenny Kravitz, and S Club 7 all hit the charts
• There was an extra girl in Destiny's Child whose name I don't even remember.
• Saying "so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel" was totally acceptable

It's a long video, but every second is a nostalgia mind-eff.


And just for fun, some more fun facts about 1999:

• Cher’s "Believe" is No.1 on Billboard's Year-End Hot 100 singles. 
• Backstreet Boys’ Millennium is the biggest selling album of the year.
• Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and Eminem release their debut albums.

the backstreet boys are making a tell-all documentary!

Ohh snap! Time for another super [bittersweet] awesome moment!

[PS Apparently this is older news, and I somehow missed it. I'm embarrassed, but better late than never!]

Since the Backstreet Boys were totally left out of the Package Tour, they're celebrating their 20th anniversary and new album with something more intimate: A documentary all about their rise to fame and what they're doing now!

It'll be another documentary about celebs to hit the theaters, hopefully by this fall!

It's another one of those moments where I'm like super pumped but the inside of me is weeping, struggling to ask "why can't it just be NSYNC?!"

Maybe it's time I admit I was on the wrong team of the boy band battle....

watch: the backstreet boys on the talk

Nope, this is obviously not some flashback video, this is from 2012. November 14th, to be exact. I turned on "The Talk" because Ellen comes on after, and saw BSB performing "I Want It That Way!" I had no choice but to check out everything they did on the show.

I should warn you, though... If you're a BSB fan, and honest to yourself, this could be a little painful. Brian's vocals are awful. Kevin is a straight up pedophile with his 90s looks. It's a great day for Team NSYNC, because a lot of the 90s boy band stereotypes are still with them. The Boys are still rocking the awesome choreographed dance moves of the past, but AJ isn't pulling them off like he used to.


Their interview WAS good, though. Brian is effing hilarious. Kevin- still too creepy for me to feel comfortable.

When I went to see the NKOTBSB concert, I swear BSB KILLED it. Their vocals were pretty good, dancing was on point... I was impressed. These performances are a bit less impressive, but it's still AWESOME that they're back and doing all of this... duh.

How awesome is it that they're putting out a new holiday song, though?! I'm a fan, for sure.

Apparently this dude is a jock on some radio station... and yet it's better than a lot of the trash we get. I guess he does know what it takes to make a good beat, though. Doubt it'll take off [it's not THAT good], but ya never know.

If there's anything I like this week, it's probably this one. It's typical, but it's what works.

I think it's a fun song for college students or anyone who's just young and doesn't give an F. The chorus is an anthem of sorts for it. I was definitely singing along. Woops.


Far East Movement ft. Rye Rye--> Jello



Their songs are always weird to me, and not in the cool LMFAO way. I think it'll grow on me, but I don't love it on first listen.


Chris Brown ft. Kevin McCall--> Strip



Well, I love Chris Brown.. so of course I like this one. Duh. I also like sexy songs, but apparently so does the entire country.


That's really it for tonight! COMPLETELY different line-up than last week's, so hopefully people are feeling a little better about the pop music we have to look forward to if you like the rhythmic stuff more. Maybe.

flashback: the most ridiculous pictures of boy bands

Tweet For my 90s Dance Party hour on Candy 95 today, I did a boy band theme and it absolutely made my day. Apparently it made a lot of other days, too. A TON of people texted in thanking me for turning their day around.

Truth is- The 90s boy bands were amazing and impossible to duplicate. No group will ever be able to do what they all did, especially the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. They're classic.
