i'm practically an mtv superstar

Alright... It's time for me to take a moment of your time and talk about me, myself, and I.

You see... As of last night, I've officially been on MTV 3.5 times, and I think that's reason to celebrate. 3.5 sightings on MTV practically makes me a celeb... especially since they were spread out over time so my 15 minutes never let up.

Yes, I finally made my debut on Real World: DC! I can finally prove that I was there for all these things I showed you, and not just hiring someone to do it for me. Lance may have gotten a little more face time but let's not forget the "no elizabethany's allowed" rule.


If you're wondering "how is she counting 3.5 times?!" let me explain.

It all started when I was a junior in high school and my wildest dream came true: I became a TRL VJ.

[Okay... So it may have only been for 10 minutes and to introduce "Holiday Inn" by Chingy, and talk to Vanessa Minnillo about how cold it was outside, and I may have stuttered big time, and my mom may or may not have been there with me..... but it still counts!]


Many of you may not know about my Making the Band obsession, but it's pretty ridiculous. My fellow stalking BFF and I [who you saw in eTV's episode 1!] went to their concert in Baltimore, found out which hotel they stayed in, waited for them, met them, then hung out with them. [I guess now's a good time to tell you RWDC wasn't the first to be stalked by ebethany....]

Well... Come Fall of 2009... There we were on MTV again.

Of course my third time was last night. I guess I'm getting less face time each time, but I understand... I know how to share, it's okay. I'm still going to be excited.

Plus, I'm mostly pumped that the Flip was super prominent...

And my partner in crime was practically the main focus...

As for my "half-time," well, that happened a couple weeks ago. I was on MTV.com for our weekly Real World DC chat! That totally counts as being on MTV, but not a full tally. Fair, right?!

So, I'm sure you can agree with me; EB= no stranger to MTV. Don't worry, I'm not one of those mean celebs. I'll sign an autograph for you any day.

farewell

So, TRL is officially over, and this is my official farewell. [Well, maybe more like a write up about last night's show.. But whatever :)]

It opened up with Beyonce, which, contrary to what I would normally say, she did pretty good. Not that she's a bad performer and I would expect her to do BAD... But she opened up with "If I Were a Boy," which is one of two songs that I really like from her. She moved on to "Single Ladies" and "Check On It," which are basically the same song in my book, and she did her usual dancing.. No big surprise.

On top of it though, she looked REALLY good. She straightened her hair and didn't wear crazy makeup or a ridiculous outfit.. She looked natural, which is when she looks best, I think.

It was amazing seeing all of the VJs come back. I haven't watched the show religiously, well, ever, but I think I have seen at least one episode with each of them. And I'm mostly glad that Carson Daly was the main host, and Damien, because he obviously has the greatest connection with the show. And even though Diddy says HE'S the king of TRL, we all know Carson is really that guy. Diddy can be prince.. maybe.

They had Taylor Swift going around with the TRL Yearbook. They were playing up the fact that she's just out of high school, and had her go around all night getting all of the stars to sign it. Cute idea, I must admit.

Miley Cyrus was busy in the photo booth all night.. Which is probably a good thing. She was just trying to mock/outdo everyone else's pictures from over the years. Now let's watch and see them leak on her Myspace.. Maybe they weren't what we thought.

Fall Out Boy minus Pete Wentz? It happened. And, it was good but, how do you have a group perform who is CURRENTLY so huge, missing the main guy?!

NSYNC shows up minus 3 members. Hmm. AKA only Justin and JC showed up. They're also the only ones remotely involved with MTV these days. It was great to see them but man, it's clear the chemistry is gone, and I don't think we'll be seeing any sort of a reunion from them. :( In the meantime, all we have is this sweet video from back in the day. It's amazing-ness.

When Carson called Eminem, it may have been the most awkward interview I have witnessed in a while. Either Eminem wasn't exactly understanding Carson, or he just did not want to do it at all. He wouldn't answer many questions, and I'm pretty sure he said he was DISAPPOINTED in his HUGE crowd when he visited the set in 2002. He wouldn't even say what his inspiration for his longggg awaited album was. Way to go, dummy.

Nelly, Ludacris and Snoop Dogg did a "legendary" performance. I was expecting something a little more from the way they were talking about it throughout the night, but it was a solid performance from all 3.



Diddy "broke the record" of most appearances on the show.. Imagine that. The guy works right across the street, and shows up whenever he feels like it. Last night was his 38th, and final appearance. How ever will he promote albums now?!

Side/quick note: They showed a clip of a Britney performance, where Justin says "OMG I REQUESTED BRITNEY BECAUSE I WANT TO DATE HER ONE DAY!"

Apparently a while back, Heidi Montag rapped for Nelly.. Now he got his chance to give his REAL reaction.



The point of the show was to countdown the most influential songs to TRL. Britney, of course, was #1 [even though she "couldn't make it" on the show] with Eminem at #2. Hey Ya, Bawitdaba, Yeah, Bye Bye Bye and more by people like Christina and BSB were on the list, too!

And finally, they all toasted to TRL and said their goodbyes.. While Snoop and Kid Rock passed a blunt back and forth.. Hilarious. It was emotional for anyone who has ever liked the show. You could tell they really didn't know how to end it. Then, Carson said "Why are we ending this show?"



Honestly Carson, as much as I DON'T watch it on the regular, I have no idea either. And neither do any of the artists. It's a shame, and you HAVE to admit it whether you still tune in or not.

Farewell, Total Request Live. You will be missed.

reunion performance

I'm sure I will make a couple postings about tonight's TRL finale, Total Finale Live... But this is the first one.

Backstreet Boys came back and performed together [minus Kevin, of course..] and did a LOT better than what I expected.

When they first started, Brian was sounding kinda rough and I was a little worried. They ARE a lot older, after all, and have different voices than what they did for "I Want It That Way," but they did pretty good! I'm happy with it. Check it out-->



YAY they're making a new album! [Even though I am on NSYNC's side of the boy band spectrum, you KNOW I love "the good ol' days!"] And I like the comment about how this boy band has outlived TRL. Who woulda thunk?!

This week during TRL's final week of regular countdowns, they had Britney's "number 1 fan."

And while he was on the show, he performed one of her dances.. "Oops I Did It Again."

And it was.. Well, interesting.. To say the least.

As I have told you before, this weekend marks the END of TRL. It's coming to a close after a decade of top 10 hits on MTV. :(

In order to celebrate the only music show left on MTV, I figured I'd let you know a couple IMPORTANT facts this weekend. ;)

First of all, "Total Finale Live" will be tomorrow night at 8pm with Carson Daly hosting!! And all of the other hosts throughout the years like Vanessa Minnillo, Damien Fahey, Hilarie Burton, Quddus, etc!

As for performers, we're going to see Beyonce, BACKSTREET BOYS, 50 Cent, Fallout Boy, and a special collaboration by Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, and Nelly, which I'm pretty pumped about.

Mariah Carey, Diddy of course, Justin and JC of NSYNC, Hilary Duff, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera and Travis Barker will also make appearances.

Where's Britney in the line-up?! Well, as of now, they're denying her being a part of it. Which is odd, because I feel like Britney IS TRL.

Which brings me to my next set of facts. The All-Time #1 List of TRL. Basically, the songs that we're at #1 for the longest, or whatever.-->

Again, I have always said that the pop era is what ruled TRL or whatever, and this list pretty much proves it. We have the top 2 boy bands, and the top 2 pop princesses. Then Kelly was the beginning of the Idol generation(s). Usher is the man. Rihanna represents the newer generation of "pop." And Good Charlotte represents the "rockers." This list is everything I would have expected it to be when it comes to WHO. The songs surprise me a LITTLE bit... Besides Umbrella.

Ohh TRL. How will teenagers ever know which music is the best, now?!

will it be good?

As I reported before, TRL is coming to an end this month. :(

And by end, I mean it's no longer going to be on MTV. They're wiping it out. Yeah. Stupid.

Of course, they've gotta have a huge, fantastic finale. And they're calling it "Total Finale Live."

Soooo clever.........

Originally it sounded like they'd be bringing back a lot of oldies.. but now, as they book people, I'm not so sure. They ARE having the ever so sweet Carson Daly back on to host it, though! :) [Along with current host Damien Fahey.]

So far they've got 50 Cent, Fall Out Boy, Beyonce, and the Backstreet Boys booked. All but BSB have albums coming out soon, so it's no surprise. I wonder if that means Britney and Kanye will also be there. That'd be cool.

I still wish they'd bring back people from the good ol days, though. If you can't tell, I'm a big fan of the 90s. ;)

RIP TRL

So it looks like our beloved TRL is going away.. but "not forever."

Apparently they want to end on a "high note" and on their 10 year anniversary probably in November.. and hopefully with lots of our favorite artists from the "pop" era.. (YAY! BRITNEY!)

I personally don't understand it.

The quick 30 second versions of the top-10 videos were the most you're going to see on the "Music Television" station. W
With the exception of the new FNMTV, the chances of the average person watching music videos on MTV is slim to none.

And not saying that TRL was the best way to show music or anything.. just saying it was the only chance people got during the day to watch any of it on the beloved MTV.

Also, no more standing outside of the MTV Studios and screaming as loud as you can hoping there's SOME chance they'll let you come up?!
No more artists promoting their albums being released on MTV either, I guess. (What other show could they do it on?)
And from a personal stand-point.. I guess I better find another show to hope to be on one day. Call me corny, but I always thought it'd be awesome to be a host of that show..

I don't know.. just seems like a not-so-smart move.

MTV, I really hope you have something really great up your sleeves..
