interview: niall horan talks manchester, tough times, and how his guitar gets him through

Niall Horan [formerly of One Direction but we don't really say that anymore or something] came in to the studio and as expected- it was silly.

Girls had been going nuts on Twitter, getting 1200 RTs in a few hours just to get a pass in.. they were messaging me trying to get his hotel or dinner plans, and one even jumped in front of my moving car to get my attention and win her way in.

Note to anyone ever trying to win: Jumping in front of a moving car is not winning. You will die and lose.

Luckily I didn't kill anyone that day. Or any day, I mean.

He came in to join the Kane Show live, then answer a few more questions with Toby and me. Intern John put him on the spot by asking how you describe what the song "Slow Hands" is about if his girl's dad is asking. It got awkward.

It wasn't nearly as awkward as when one mom blurted out that she had made her daughter, who was there, while listening to R Kelly's album.

Toby and I asked him about the first time he picked up his guitar [it was his brother's but his brother never played], the toughest time in his life [realizing his life would never be normal again] and his thoughts on the event in Manchester earlier this week.

Being a human who is really good at facial expressions and getting caught in them, I mostly enjoyed this look that I relate to when your boo is telling a completely made up story but you don't wanna interrupt or call them out so you try and keep quiet:

It's fun making little girls scream.* And talking to people who are already a big deal but are kinda starting over again.

show podcast: calling out a bully

I did a big One Direction contest last week, and in case you were unaware- those fans get some kinda crazy trying to get tickets. E-mails, angry phone calls, begging tweets... all of it is to be expected, but I didn't think I'd have to fight off some bully kids who were pretending to be me/the station.

One girl was complaining about how the station called her at 11pm, told her she won tickets, but then didn't give them to her. Obviously the station isn't going to call at 11pm, so I asked for the number.... then I called it.


[There's actually a lot more to this, but I had to cut it down for on air purposes. They whined about how it wasn't them, tried to get another girl to admit to it... got mad when I hinted that they'd be punished for this forever, and were basically just terrible little teenagers.]

WHY ARE THEY SO MEAN NOWADAYS?!? I mean, prank calls happened back when I was growing up too, but all the online stuff that goes on with this is not okay. Ever since the Emblem 3 BS I haven't been able to let it go down, so I did one little thing to hopefully stop at least a few people from being a-holes.

Some may say I should stay out of it and leave 'em alone cuz they're just kids... but I'm not into just letting these humans grow up thinking it's okay to be a terrible person.

listen: my interview with one direction's zayn

Two interviews in one week! I enjoy this!

Tonight: Zayn from One Direction! This boy band is helping bring back pop music and I am LOVING that. People are comparing them to NSYNC, they have an insane fan base, and they came from X Factor, where they were grouped together by Simon Cowell after they all tried out individually. Pretty cool story.

Here's the interview, with a lot of the questions coming directly from the Directioners! It's fun to be able to include listeners/fans.



Short and sweet! They were calling a bazillion stations all over the country, not going to lie, but I'm still pumped that I got to be one of them!
