the covers of entertainment weekly in 1993 were just weird

I was trying to come up with the perfect word to describe this collection of magazine covers, but I just don't know that I can. As much as I always read about the 90s and remember them and love them, these all seem to come from a different planet now.

Marky Mark Wahlberg, shirtless, carefree, and rapping. As much as I know it happened, I still can't imagine it anymore.

CAN YOU BELIEVE MICHAEL JACKSON?! Well, yeah... but do we get it?! Still no.

So what you're saying is... it's just a cult hit, it'll never go anywhere, and it's got nothing to offer to pop culture? Oh.

Here's the thing... I feel like nowadays, people go from good-bad, not bad-good. All those Disney girls? They wanna be as much anti-Disney as possible now. Were good girls actually sexy back then?!

Sex and family shows sharing the spotlight... well, maybe that's not so weird nowadays.

OMGOMGOMG CONEHEADS! IT'S GOING TO BE SO GOOD! [Side note: At least all these movies were original! Aren't we just getting remakes and sequels in the summer these days?]

You rock that all denim and plaid, Tom! ...Wait.... he's a leading man NOW?! [Makes me wonder who will end up becoming a legend like him in another 20 years. Any bets?]

WHY IS EVERYTHING ABOUT REINVENTION?! Did everyone hate themselves? Was there a depression or something I'm unaware of?!

Quite simple why this one's weird: Radio people never make the headlines of this level for something they did themselves these days. Everyone's too afraid of getting fired or getting fined. It's sad, huh? Trust me, I know.

Considering I don't know who he is, I guess it never really worked out for him. I'm sure he appreciates the effort though, EW.

BTW These are the past 6 covers.... I don't think I need to prove the lack of originality anymore.... but props to Dexter.

pics and video: the cast of clueless reunites!

EEP! I love that casts are starting to reunite! It's totally the cool thing to do. And Entertainment Weekly capitalized on that with an entire issue devoted to them, featuring our faves from Clueless. [Minus Brittany Murphy, of course. RIP. Hmph.]

Thankfully Travis is cleaned up and uber hott now, but you definitely can't say the same thing for Christian. Homeboy let himself go.

Before, obvi....

And after. See what I mean about Christian? Oof.

But the best part: This video of them talking all about filming, the fashion, and the ridiculous hat Dionne wore.

Now can I get a reunion of "That Thing You Do?!" It's like, my favorite movie of all time, and I'd really enjoy a karaoke sesh with all the guys. Make it happen, world. Thanks.

on the racks: entertainment weekly's entertainer of the year must be a joke

It’s that time of the year again when all the lists of “best ___ of the year” are revealed. Today Entertainment Weekly revealed their Entertainer of the Year… and it made me vomit.

Taylor freaking Swift. Is this a joke?! I still can’t seem to find the “entertaining” factor in her life this year. The coolest thing she’s done is date Jake Gyllenhaal. [And okay, maybe the lyrics for “Dear John” are kinda funny too.]

I don’t know that I can come up with who I think should be the Entertainer of the Year because my brain isn’t functioning right now, but I can tell you that I’d pick most if not all of the “runner ups” over her.

  • James Franco
  • Jane Lynch
  • Rico Rodriguez [!!!!]
  • Katy Perry
  • Kanye West
  • Ben Affleck
  • Jon Hamm
  • Will Smith’s kids

Those are just some of them that they’re telling us before tomorrow’s issue hits newsstands.

I really hope there are some better people in there. I love that Will Smith’s kids are in it. Jane Lynch is representing Glee so that’s good. Obviously I LOVE Rico on the list and with his own cover. I KNOW HIM! But you’d assume Lady Gaga or some country stars would be there, but maybe they’re just incognito right now.

I’ll update you with the full list tomorrow, but in the meantime I will sulk and give the computer my angry eye and pretend to not be interested in this issue at all… and look forward to the day when people are like “holy S, this chic blows!”
