awesome pictures in the national geographic photo contest of 2011

Every year, the National Geographic has a photography contest, and this year's deadline is November 30. BUT, lucky for us, thanks to The Big Picture, we can get a preview of some of the awesome pictures.

Here are the ones I loved, in no particular order, of course.

The penguins: TO DIE FOR. Same with the cat and the little kid. Gah. And can you imagine being in that shark picture? Oh, hell no.
