diy chevron and jeweled nails

I've been really slacking on this here blog. I wish I had a good excuse beyond focusing on other things. This has always been my baby and it always will.... but a new bossman in the office has brought a couple changes around here that I'm getting used to. [Good changes. I'm very excited for this!]

Anyway, I may not have had time to blog, but I had time to do my nails... and I'm pretty obsessed with them. 

The pink was done in the salon and I wish I had remembered the color but I failed you and for that I am sorry.

I added some gold glitter to the one nail and then a chevron Jamberry applique. The triangle gems came from BlueLans! A whole pack of different ones for $2. Holla. 

As you can kinda see, I'm still not perfect at knowing how much glue to use for the gems, and my Jamberry could use some more smoothing out, but like... ADD. And they still look great. Also, lotion, Elizabethany. Ever heard of it?

nails: making music with jamberry

Anyone else's nails only look good for a couple weeks at a time before they go to $#!t again?! I don't know why, but I only get my nails long enough to paint for about a month, before I work on growing them out again for another three to four. I need more biotin in my life. 

When the time comes, I do a lot of playing. This time I had to use one of my favorite Jamberry sheets... it had boomboxes or tapes and other fun stuff on it!

To match it, I added an orange polish I got from Five Below [it's nice and thin and rarely chips] and Selena Gomez's "Pretty in Plum" by OPI. The glitter is Essie's "Set in Stones." [I got the Essie and OPI in previous Ipsy bags!]

The Essie glitter chips the easiest. I had to switch out the pinky nail to just purple after 36 hours... but it's still looking fabulous!

what ya wearin valentine's day

Well... I thought I had posted this already... I must have dreamt it.

I really do miss seeing all of your outfits every week. It's a little bit of depression to start out every Wednesday... but I'll definitely be bringing it back for every holiday- so count on it!

Valentine's Day normally involves people getting really pretty or done up, or looking really hott... depending on your relationship status. What I failed to realize- it's one day that people are slightly selfless. Instead of showing off themselves, they're showing off what their boo has done for them. Still, some of you shared your looks with me!

Let's get to it!

@anroderick's makeup and hair looked flawless, but that scarf! Something seemed special about it.. and she told me it was actually made from flannel pj's!!

 I love @acarles  touches of leather and pink to lighten it all up.

DAYUM, check out @l0vedreamwish's  leg [and cleavage!] coming out of that dress!

@m_cleave and her man both looked clean and sexy.

A little bit of floral and a little bit of rock on @muchachamary for a lot of perfection!

@bhensleyy had some pretty nail art!

I'm all about the red and polka dots on Valentine's Day, like @nicolegoesbynikki!

SO much yes to @curly_kaay and her twin's matching outfits! A touch of 90s in there...

And I also forgot to take a full picture, but I had to wear this flower/heart tank I got from my swap party, and of course the red jeans... so I just topped it off with a brown cardigan I got many years ago and brown boots you can't see. [Damn snow preventing me from wearing pumps or even flats]

I tried to do a lot of things to my nails and failed at them all, so resorted to this red and pink ombre... but I like this so much better than anything I even attempted, so I ain't mad!

I hope everyone had a fantastic Valentine's Day! I hope you got spoiled... even if you spoiled yourself.

super bowl/football nails!

Ever heard of Jamberry nail wraps? Me neither... until a little while ago... and I was super pumped to try them out! As soon as I got them, I realized I had bit all my nails off one drunken night... because of course. 

I decided to go to the nail salon for the first time in five years and get some acrylics [wow prices have gone up....] so I could make magic happen. 

Naturally, with the Super Bowl coming up, I had them paint my nails burgundy so I could do a yellow/football accent nail myself! [I don't care if my 'Skins aren't in the game... I still rep them. 

Pretty neat, RIGHT?! 

They come as these little strips that you measure to your nails, peel off, heat up a little bit, and then bond them to your nail. [You can see the instructions video here.] It's definitely easy to do, but mine have a few wrinkles that I assume are just because it's not going to be perfect the first time. Luckily, they're not visible because most of the football wrap is clear.  

These are all the designs I got... 

I love that the football and chevron ones are clear backgrounds so that I can put whatever color I want underneath... and when I master these things, the other ones will be awesome to use to cover a whole nail with the quickness and hottness. They even have a ton of college ones!

They're supposed to last about two weeks, but since I just put mine on yesterday, I can't confirm that. I will totally update this whenever they do start to look trashy, though. 

Also cool: They come in so many sizes that you could easily do your toes, too... or just do accent nails and they'll last a LONG time.

I had to wear some of my Black Friday finds! I got the jeans from Charlotte Russe for $15 and the boots from target for $18! Added the best scarf ever that I got from CR last year and a NY&C cardigan with my leopard bracelet/watch. I feel like the oversized cardigan makes me look huge, but I guess that's what they're supposed to do...?

Now... some bad news.

I think I'm going to officially bring my beloved WYWW to an end in 2014. I'm sad to say it and do it, but when it's not growing/catching on like I'd hoped after over a year, it's time to try something new. I'll still be wanting to see your outfits, but we'll be doing it a little different. After some more brainstorming, I'll explain! In the meantime, let's send it out with a bang and make the last couple the best ever!

presents in the mail: last month's subscription boxes

Each month that comes I always tell myself to post pictures of my Birchbox vs. ipsy, but always forget... now this week I got my first Influenster box [which is free!], and decided I had to share!

If you're looking to get a gift in the mail every month, allow me to help!

BIRCHBOX: A delicious Ghiradelli minty chocolate, sample of Viva La Juicy, small nail polish, mask samples, and my new favorite make-up: Chella highlighter pencil [that I also got in ipsy a couple months ago].

IPSY: Cute little bag as always, lip crayon, mascara, blush/bronzer, nail polish, and eyeliner pencil.. and a trial size of an exfoliator mask.

INFLUENSTER: Dry shampoo, glitter nail polish, snack bar, work-out headband, and mask. 

Every month I say I'm going to cancel Birchbox, but I never do. The thing is... they rarely give full-sized things, and there are a lot of facial masks/shampoos involved. That's not the kinda stuff I'm going to use. That all goes straight into my "sample box," which I pick from when I'm going on a trip or a guest needs something.

ipsy typically gives you mostly full-sized things, and more make-up than anything. They normally go straight to my daily make-up box. Plus... I've stocked up on make-up bags that can be used as clutches or gifts for others! [Hey... I bought it, I can totally give it as a present!]

As for Influenster... I'm not totally sure how it works. This one is actually free, but I signed up for it and took some quizzes etc 6+ months ago and just got my first box. I'm not entirely sure how they pick who gets a box each month, but it's worth ten minutes of your procrastination to try! 

My goal for this month is to find a different monthly box thing to subscribe to so I can get rid of Birchbox but still get multiple goodies in the mail! Anyone have recommendations?!

Before I even get into this week, I should let everyone know that I am 99% positive I missed at least one person. Not only am I finding that people are using all sortsa hashtags, but I was trying to keep track of them all on a bunch of different computers... so if you're missing, LET ME KNOW!

Okay so this is actually from a boutique that I follow, but I love the outfit! I'm normally against the whole leggings-as-pants thing, but if it's a long shirt and cardigan like this, I'm diggin' it.

As for me... UGH. No camera, phone's camera broke, couldn't find someone to take a picture/forgot when they were all around... so this is all I got for ya.

I had an orange button down from Love Culture and a black/multicolored scarf that I got for $5 from jane.com [my new weakness!]. You can see the scarf a little better on instagram.

Another solid week, though! YAY!
