eb's how to: become fashionable overnight

I've told you before that I'm not the most fashionable person on the planet. Before coming to Texas, wearing more than a cheap plain top with jeans and maybe a necklace was about as good as my style got. Then I figured out how to cheat...

And the cheating made all my friends suddenly call me a girl when I went to visit home a couple weeks ago.

In case any of you happen to be like me [cheap, clueless, a tad boring but wanting to try], I've decided I need to share my secrets with you:

First of all- I discovered People Style Watch about 9 months ago and I'm not kidding when I say it changed my life. The magazine gives it to you straight up- The trends, what to buy, what to throw away, how to carry over trends, and even some exclusive discounts.

What I do with it:
  • The 1st read- read everything and enjoy it all.
  • 2nd- Cut out anything and everything that I like or want to remember
  • Tape it to a clean piece of paper and create a collage.

It's simple, and I'm sure it's been done before, but it's mine. It's not the fashions that anyone else likes. It's not something I have to flip through 234987 pages to see one thing I like. It's all the outfits I've found that I think I could recreate [or at least be inspired to create something like it] with what I have in my closet.

My ADD and crafty OCD caused me to laminate it and make it pretty so that it'll never get messed up, but it wasn't always that way. [Bonus that comes with the lamination: I can circle things I really want to do ASAP and write what I need with a dry/erase marker.]

Now, whenever I go out, get ready for work, etc, I look through the book and figure out what I want to wear. It saves SO much time and I'm not even gonna lie- I look 3x better than I did 6 months ago.

Like I said- the best part about this is that it's personalized for me, but in case you like my style or the same style as me, I've uploaded my pages and will continue to do so if you want me to. Save em, print em, laminate them... Do what ya want.

I want to try and start posting my "inspired outfits" a little more, but I need to figure out a way to take pictures besides in my mirror. This is my most proud moment, though-->

If you do make a Style Book for yourself, do share if you can! It's more fun that way! Also- if you're not much of a magazine person, my new fave style websites are Chictopia and I LOVE the realness of College Fashionista and the fact that it has different schools to choose from.

Another way this "knowledge" from my Style Book has helped me is that I can go straight to a clearance rack and know exactly how I can wear each of those uber cheap pieces. I have saved a ton of money by not just picking up the cute, overpriced tops that need nothing added to them.

Example: This jacket was $6!!!

Recommendation: Check out GoJane.com. Their shoes and prices are amazing, and you can almost always get 20% off with People Style Watch. This month's code= JANE20PSW.

WHEW! That's a lot of information, but I just had to share this. Let me know your thoughts. I'd hate to keep posting stuff like this for no one to be interested!

Happy crafting! ;)

love,
elizabethany
