happy birthday!

Billboard is 50 years old this year!! Woah!

And they have all kinds of lists on their site you can check out, but my faves were "All-Time Top 100 Songs" and "All-Time Top Artists"..

It's pretty interesting to see how the music and artists of today compare to everyone in the past 50 years.. I've always wondered which songs that we hear now will be considered "classics" later on.. or what will be on the "oldies" stations when we are all old and with kids.

Here are my highlights for the All-Time Top 100 Songs..

99. Usher, U Got It Bad.. good song, okay.
97. Gloria Gaynor, I Will Survive.. I totally look at this as a classic. I'm disappointed it's so far down.
95. Madonna, Like A Virgin.. woah. DEFINITELY a classic.. weird.
89. Fergie, Big Girls Don't Cry.. out of all of the Fergie songs, this IS my favorite. But I can't imagine it's really her best one to everyone else... let alone good enough to beat out "Like a Virgin"
88. Usher, You Make Me Wanna.. I think I'd pick U Got It Bad over this one..
86. Phil Vassar, Another Day in Paradise.. one of the very few country songs on here (I'm disappointed..) but overall a good song.
84. Puff Daddy, I'll Be Missing You.. really great song. Glad it's on here.. I think maybe I'd put it even higher
78. All-4-One, I Swear.. O-M-G! TOTALLY a classic for our generation I think! I'd definitely put it higher :)
76. Lionel Richie, All Night Long
73. Wild Cherry, Play That Funky Music.. def something I have heard my whole life as being something that represented those fab 70's
71. Michael Jackson, Billie Jean... the ONLY saw of MJ's on here.. and it's THIS one.. can you believe it?! It's so low in the list, too!
68. Whitney Houston, I Will Always Love you
65. Marvin Gaye, I Heard it Through The Grapevine... totally okay with this until I see the next one...
64. Nelly feat. Kelly Rowland, Dilemma.. great song, I love it.. but above Grapevine?! Wow..
58. Tag Team, WHOOMP There it is!... haha
54. Brandy and Monica, The Boy is Mine.. Yea, I guess I can say that this is a "classic" of our generation.. everyone knows it
51. Ace of Base, The Sign.. oh man, my first ever album I bought! I love it!
50. Timbaland feat. One Republic, Apologize.. okay, I figured this would be on here.
49. Kanye West, Gold Digger.. his only song on here.. I'm surprised it's this one, and I'm bothered it beat Billie Jean..
46. BeeGee's, Stayin Alive.. YES! THIS is what I call the DEFINITION of an era! It represents the 70s disco in every way... and it's only #46.
45. Mario, Let Me Love You... why?
43. Boys II Men, End of the Road.. okay okay, glad to see they make their debut in the top half
32. Marvin Gaye, Lets Get It On.. ooh la laaa.
30. Savage Garden, Truly, Madly Deeply.. I didn't think this was so big of a song.. until everyone always plays it when they see it on my iPod.
25. Police, Every Breath You Take.. definition of the 80s..
24. Next, Too Close.. HAHAHA what a great song.. and so, so high up on this chart..
23. Flo Rida, Low.. figured this would be high up.. but dang, it's unsettling to think that this is what defines the current generation. yikes!
17. Boys II Men, I'll Make Love To You.. love it.
11. Usher, Yeah! I feel the same way about this one that I do "Low".. great song though
10. Toni Braxton, Unbreak My Heart.. interesting
9. Mariah Carey, We Belong Together... I heard this did really well.. GUESS SO!
8. The Beatles, Hey Jude.. they definitely need to be in the Top 10, and I can't think of a better song
6. Olivia Newton-John, Let's Get Physical... hahaha, wow. Maybe I don't have to worry about "Low" and "Yeah!" defining us...
5. The Macarena!!!
4. LeAnn Rimes, How Do I Live... the question is.. how did she make it in the top 5?!
1. Chubby Checker, The Twist.. now THIS is what I call a #1 song! Everyone has heard it at LEAST once...

Okay so make sure you check out the whole list. I fully enjoy that some of the songs are on there... I just can't believe that some songs got beat by others... you tell me though.

Thanks Billboard!! :)

love,
elizabethany
