wearing: matching stripes and leopard print

One of the things I'm always so envious of on What Ya Wearin Wednesday is people's ability to mix-up and match different patterns. I'm taking baby steps, but I'm giving it a whirl!

The easiest one to try first: stripes and leopard.

First of all, that bracelet and watch is my everything right now. Normally I hate things being on my wrist because of typing but also because I think it accentuates how huge they are. This is perfect. It's easy to snap off when I'm working, and looks good, right?! I need to get more ASAP. 

If you have a jean jacket, this outfit is great for fall weekends. It's casual, but shows a little effort I think. 

Maybe next time I'll go for two main pieces to be different patterns... maybe.

My hair: I did a topsy-tail, then braided the pony, and wrapped it through/around twice. It was loose, comfortable, and subtle... but I felt fancy'd up a little bit. [This was the beginning inspiration.]

It was a really plain week, I guess. Even though it was all simple, I felt like I was getting dressed a lot more than the average night in the studio when no one is going to see me.

pinspired: put a no-sew pocket on an old tank!

I have an entire drawer of racerbank tanks, and most of them are plain to be used as undershirts... BUT! It's time to spruce them up a bit.

Pinterest has all sorts of versions of sprucing up pockets, adding pockets, etc, so I decided it was time I did that!

If you don't have a sewing machine and don't want to poke yourself with a needle and thread, I've got another idea.
All you need is a tank or a shirt, a little bit of fabric [I honestly think any kind will do for this. I got several "quarters" from JoAnn's for $2 so that I can do it to a bunch of shirts], an iron and the fusible web tape I've been using for so many projects lately. Total cost, assuming you have a tank already: under $5... and since you'll have leftovers of everything, it's basically less than $1.

Put your tank on and decide how big you'd like your pocket and where. Cut out the piece of fabric in a pocket-like shape. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Fold the top over, and put the hem tape inside. Iron it down. 

Then I did the sides. I flipped it upside down and put the hem tape between the fabrics so that it'd be folded over. Next time I think I'll start from the bottom so it's easier to work with the shape a little more.

Then just go around, folding some under, and putting them tape between the folded under piece and the shirt. I know I should have taken more pictures. I was distracted and I'm sorry!

The whole project took about 10 minutes, and I'm totally obsessed with this shirt now. Yay for mixing patterns and being all 'MERICA, right?!

pinspired outfit: striped sweater and boots

Another season is here finally hitting this area, so it's time to do another Pinspired Challenge!

Even though it was actually 70 degrees today, it's been a lot cooler, so I feel more comfortable wearing boots and warmer clothes!

I think I have my entire 10 days already planned out, and many of the outfits I should be able to match almost identically, but today I used a pin strictly for inspiration, not to copy-cat.

This is the original outfit, costing $267 for the items I "copied."

Instead of using a cardigan, I found an awesome short-sleeved sweater that buttons down the BACK. 

The sweater is actually a neat material/woven style that I've never worn before..

• Jeans also from Forever21 for $10
• Boots from GoJane.com for $17 [Similar from Charlotte Russe]
• TOTAL= $32

I don't have the variety of accessories to pump up an outfit which makes me sad, but I can't come to terms with spending the amount of money on a necklace/bracelet as I could on a shirt or jeans. Maybe one day I'll come around, but until then, I'll accept them as Christmas presents! *wink wink*

When I was creating this outfit, I realized that you could really turn any cardigan into a button down back and vice versa! Take out the tags, and it could really transform an outfit! If you're going out, how great would it be to have a low cut back? I'm definitely going to be trying it. 

Also, these boots are my 'gettin dirty' boots. They definitely show some wear and tear, but I think that's how they're supposed to be. I'm certainly not mad about it for once. 

It's a hella simple outfit, and not the most-exact for pinspiration, but I enjoy it! Plus- it gave me more ideas for the future. YAY!
