let's do this june instagram challenge!

It's time for another #HOTPicADay photo challenge with my station and me! [I made it, so it's for every one of my friends, not just listeners!]

Save this picture, repost it on your own Instagram or whatever, and use each day's word/label/whatever as inspiration for a picture to post. If you jump in late- it's okay! If you miss a couple, that's fine! Just jump back in!

The one we did in March was so fun! I woke up every morning pumped to see everyone's pictures, and everyone who regularly participated told me they gained a ton of followers from it!

Plus, it's easy. And it gives you something to do. And it's my birthday month so like... you have to... right?

Can't wait to see your pictures tomorrow!

watch etv: i rode in a stunt plane!

Sometimes.... my life is really freakin' rad. [Props to everyone on Twitter this morning helping me come up with new words. Rad is so added to my vocab now.]

I got the chance to ride in a plane yesterday with a pilot known for doing shows all over the nation... flipping, falling, spinning, etc through the sky. I was a little nervous, not gonna lie... but I'll do anything for the camera.

Rad, awesome, gnarly, superb, wicked... every single word that people added to my vocab this morning describes this ride. No video or cameras could capture the entire essence of the experience. It was definitely something I'll never forget. The surprising thing: It was so smooth, so beautiful, and even peaceful.... I expected things to be a lot worse.

Mike was great and hilarious, too. His comments had me rollin', especially as I was editing. I don't think I realized how many times he had told me he liked making me scream... and I definitely didn't catch him saying "I always feel light-headed" at the end when we were actually talking. I probably would have freaked out a little more.

The air show is at the beach this weekend, which happens to be a half mile from my house. I'll be there, amazed that I actually got the opportunity to ride along.

morning hangover 053113

HOLY WOW it's the final day of May! What will I do when my Pinspiration challenge is over?! Oh. Don't worry. I've got an Instagram challenge ready for ALL of us!

But let's just stay focused, Internet.
And that's that!

Today, make sure we all celebrate World NO-Tobacco Day. C'mon. You can give it up for one day. I believe in you.
Tomorrow we celebrate my birthday month! WUT-WUUTTTT! Oh, and it's Say Something Nice Day... so wish me a happy birthday month.
Sunday is National Cancer Survivors Day. All joking aside- super props to all of you. So glad you're still here! [Wow. That sounds really bad. I'm awful with this serious stuff.]

pinspired: turning a long sleeved shirt into a skirt

One of those pins that everyone pins without even really trying it is this one: Turn a long sleeve shirt into a skirt!

Well, I finally decided to give it a whirl... but I wanted mine to be a little shorter since I don't really have the typical "work environment." Turns out, it wassss a little easier said than done, but not impossible.

Hopefully that's not impossible to follow. For me, the bow looked ridiculous because my shirt was so thin and I just couldn't get it right. I liked this twisty knot front, but the sides definitely needed some tweaking to make it wearable.
Who am I kidding?! The whole experiment takes a lot of tweaking! You tie it, and tuck the ends under and roll, until nothing is sticking out and it's flat enough for you're liking.

Eventually it worked out and I wore it with my crochet-back tank.

Oh! And Target Clearance wedges!

My review: It's not something I plan on doing often... at least not with my collection of shirts. It rode up a lot after an hour of wearing it, probably exposing my vajayjay to the world several times. It also requires way too much fixing, bunching up, and perfecting. You could try the longer version [don't push the neck down/pull the arms up] and it might be a little better.

what ya wearin wednesday 052913

I thought that the warmer weather would bring out more people to this here weekly event, but I may have been wrong.. I seem to be so far, anyway.

BUT! We have some people who are still having fun with my favorite day of the week... so let's show em off.

Neon= YES PLEASE! Love the top paired with studded flats on Cara.

@naomicvargas is really good with those maxis and crop tops.

@jannashepherd was gettin her red carpet on with a fun floral dress! I'm also enjoying her coworker's necklace and color combo.

@showmewhytheycallyouruthless also rocked a floral dress! I feel like the perfect word for it is "darling."

@kcessna said she's obsessed with her new ring, and I'm lovin' it too!

The t-shirt that @ksnedegar is wearing is starting to rule the world and I'm not mad about it. Also not mad about the shoes. I need them.

These low cut in the back tanks that @llllinds is wearing need to be in every closet this summer. It's a fun game of peekaboo for the beach OR the bars.

@abaker1804 scored these fab heels for under $10! I like her.

Loving every piece on @vlaxerg today. That rose necklace is awesome, and I think those are striped shorts so yes please.

Also loving the striped/high waisted shorts combo on @caseyreneed. The necklace adds a simple but important touch.

Got two looks out of @kimmisaurusrex in one day! The super pretty make-up/white blazer combo and then the more relaxed shorts outfit. I think those are acid washed, and I also think I really like them.

@mingalovee was the birthday girl! And looking beautiful in that polka dot dress!

@kacikruz is gettin fancy with her pearls and floral!

And @Yelp757HRVA got fancy with his socks! I think it's fun that guys are getting more into socks now.

@asnedegar gets her shorts from Walmart. I'm about to say BRB and get some of my own, cuz they look great!

Speaking of looking great, I can't say how much I love the ideas in this outfit on @alorabuzz! Chambray over a dress or skirt! Baggy, short shirt over a skirt that's not super tight. Booties in the summer! I'm taking notes.

Had to get @MTVJess in on this because her shorts/sandals are just great!

And here's Matt's outfit. I never have any words for him.

You may have seen me wearing a shirt turned skirt on Instagram [check it out here!], but I was worried about it riding up while hosting my new club night, so I changed into this!

-tank from TJ Maxx- $4
-skirt from Charlotte Russe- $10
-super old sandals from GoJane.com I think
-orange feather earrings from CR, about $2

Note to self: Start taking off the obnoxious but awesome hair ties before taking pictures of your outfit.

And again, thanks to everyone who submits and especially to those who get their friends to do it!

the perfect adult summer camp schedule

I saw a commercial for one of the gymnastics summer camps I went to as a kid and immediately got so jealous. Why are there no summer camps that adults can escape to [without having to watch over children]?!

It seemed like a lot of people felt my pain in having something missing from their lives, so let's just imagine what the perfect day would be like, after making your brand new friends...

11:00 am- Wake up, and head to brunch. Free Mimosa and Bloody Mary bars included.

12-2:30 pm- Leisure time. Hang out with friends, play on ropes courses, ziplines, trampolines, horseback riding, dune buggies, paintball, arcade, etc.

2:30-5:00 pm- Sports time. Every sports facility imaginable available from fields to gymnastics gyms... workout equipment to swimming pools... water sports and extreme sports... even circus sports.

5-7:00 pm- Happy hour and dinner. If we're really dreaming, we wouldn't have to pay for the drinks... or they're only $1 during this time.

7-9:00 pm- Group activities. Campfires, slip n slides, mud wrestling, competitions like tug o' war and kickball, etc.

9-10:00 pm- Get ready/pre-game time.

10pm-2:00 am- Themed bar night. Each night is different [subject to change].
  • Monday: Karaoke
  • Tuesday: Party Like It's 1999
  • Wednesday: Anything But Clothes
  • Thursday: White Trash
  • Friday: Celebrity
  • Saturday: Halloween
  • Sunday: Pajamas

2:00 am- Get an anti-hangover shot/pill and head to bed.

Damnit, now I'm even more mad I can't just get away and do this right now. There are some adult summer camps, but they're mostly pretty focused on what you like to do. There's also a Camp Grounded in Cali that seems to have a little bit of everything, minus the adult activities and extreme sports.

So now the question is... who's gonna fund this idea and help me make it happen?! It shouldn't be that hard, right?!?!

pinspired recipe: apple turkey burgers

Fruit + meat = a highly underrated combination in my opinion. The only fruit most people ever put with meat is tomato... and those people are missing out. Pineapples added to BBQ chicken= freaking great. Any citrus added to chicken in general is fantastic. Apples and turkey burgers= delicious!

I found this pin and wasn't totally sure what to expect, but it seemed like the perfect thing to make on Memorial Day... especially considering I had just picked up a pack of Redd's apple ale [which is new and also delicious. It's not a cider, it's an apple flavored beer, so dudes can like it too!].

The recipe is from Panera, so I definitely tweaked it a little bit.... but these are easy to make and so juicy-good. [Even for a beginner on the grill!]

NEED [for 4 big ol' burgers]:

  • 1.5 pounds of ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 2.5 tbs apple butter
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • half of a small, sweet onion, grated or minced
  • 1 tbs fresh parsley, or 1-2 tsp dried
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • lettuce, mayo, and buns for toppings
DO:
  1. Combine everything in a large mixing bowl and mix/mash it up with your hands.
  2. Mold into burgers. I used wax paper to help me out.
  3. Coat burgers and grill with cooking oil/spray.
  4. Grill them for about 9 minutes at 425 degrees, and flip 5 minutes through.
  5. Toast some buns, throw a little mayo on them and lettuce, and grab a napkin for the juice that will probably come out!

I really wanted some Hawaiian buns to go with them, but I couldn't find any that day. It didn't really matter, though. These are so tasteful, but not overwhelming! You can taste the apple butter but it doesn't taste like an apple burger. Yum.

I do think there is a better sauce to accompany them, though.. I just can't figure out what it is. Each bite I kept trying to figure out what it was I wanted to replace the mayo with, and just couldn't. If you think of something, let me know!

And yes, the Redd's was great with it... obviously.

morning hangover 052913

Good morning and I know it doesn't feel like a Wednesday, but it is! It's #WhatYaWearinWednesday! Don't forget to post your pictures sometime today!

Now, let's see more of the Internet.
  • Did you know there's a spin-off of "Cars" coming this summer called "Planes?!"
I feel like that was enough to keep you occupied all day... or at least until my show! If not, don't forget I've been updating like a madwoman this month because of all the Pinspiration! I'll be playing catch-up today!

pinspired: shower curtains turned window curtains

Maybe one of my most favorite, genius ideas Pinterest has taught me is the *art* of turning one shower curtain into two window curtains.

Were you aware you could get a fantastic shower curtain from Ross or TJ Maxx for $8? I got a yellow damask one for that price, and it was originally $28!

BTW- this is how ugly the curtains in the bedroom were before.

That doesn't even show the horrid-ness of it. They were a black-out beige that blended in to the walls and just made the room feel dull and dark.

Originally I planned on making yellow an accent color in the room with the thrift store lamps and other things, but when I found these yellow curtains, I loved them. I was excited to mix up patterns and bring some light to the room.

Because my room came with built in curtain rods, and I didn't plan on having some huge drapes in there, cutting a shower curtain in half was the perfect width for both sides.

It's the easiest thing you'll ever make for your house. You cut in half, sew or bond the cut end under as a hem, then either hang them with shower curtain rings or attach pieces of ribbon across the top.

I went the ribbon route, but I think I'll be undo'ing that action and probably just getting some rings for it. Because my curtains are so light, you can see the ribbon through them when the sun is shining through.

Also when the shining through, it makes it a bit difficult to show you the design and how light, colorful, and fun they really are in the room.

...so here they are with a little flash/nighttime help.

I'm not/wasn't worried about the pattern being centered, especially because the curtains are perfectly aligned on the outer sides of the bed. Plus, I don't think anyone is really ever going to notice unless they're looking at that picture.

So to sum it all up, you can get two curtains for the price of one. You don't even have to spend $20-30 at Target. Two curtain panels for $8 total. That's a freakin' bargain, my friends.

Also, they look fabulous if you use two panels on one window. I really enjoy the one Little Pink Monster [Kane's wife] used for her daughter's bedroom.

Next up in my bedroom: fixing up that nightstand. It really brings everything down, huh? All I want is a "grown up room!"
